That's sooooo cute, a real coinkydink if you ask me!! Would the wedding be in Edmonton? A Hawaii wedding would be awesome!

I don't know where they would have it. I'd say my brother is the go to the courthouse type or elope. But I think Stacey's family would want a larger wedding. I will be interesting how it all pans out.

Chris and I had planned a bigger wedding in Seattle. After 3 weeks of fighting about details we decided to elope and get married a year earlier. Sometimes (and just sometimes) I wish we had waited and had a bigger wedding.

That's how I feel... I love how we just had a small ceremony, none of the typical wedding drama. Even though I should be looking forward to our wedding next year, I already dread it. Because Glen's family is like you shouldn't invite this cousin, you should invite this person, my friends here want me to have the wedding in Canada, weddings cause so much drama I'm not into that. I'm doing it more for our families than myself, I could care less about the party and all that stuff.

Yes, it can turn into such a drama-fest. Families make it so difficult sometimes.

My poor son! He got BEAT ON THE ICE TODAY!

It was really his first time on the ice in 3 years and he's never played hockey competitively before. I won't lie, I had to get up and leave to bawl my eyes out in the car because all these kids were skating past him so fast and there he was wobbling all over the place, bumping into the sideboards to stop. I felt SO bad! I just wanted to go get him off the bench and say: "OKAY LETS GO HOME!"

By the end he was getting his groove, slowly but surely. All the parents knew each other and they were all screaming at their kids to: "GO GO GO!"

I am just not like that. It said beginner league when I signed him up, these kids were like little pros.

Anyways, I signed him for private lessons and I am going to try to condition him more. I felt so bad. However, when he got off the ice, he had the biggest smile on his face and he said: "WOW MOM THAT WAS SO MUCH FUN!"

AWW! He made me smile! I got all teary and was so proud of him! That's really what matters. :)

He'll get better with practice I am sure. Its just hard to watch him compared to the other kids on his team.

The lessons will help, Nev. Having two brothers that play/played pro hockey, growing up hockey was a lifestyle not a sport for my family. (just like many in Canada)

Between the three of us, we rarely ever left the rink. I was there mostly every night of the week playing or watching. My brothers went through some CRAZY stuff with parents and coaches. It's so incredibly competitive out there.

All I can say is if he has fun, that is all that matters. My little brother has had a dream of pro hockey since he was little so that is what he did. But for most , hockey should just be something to have fun with teammates.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Glad he had fun!! The skating rink brings out the WORST in many parents! last yr I was at the rink watching young kids practice, man the parents were idiots! 1 guy even opened up the main door, yelled at his kid to bust his Azz over to him, then just screamed at his kid!! Was pretty sad. I would estimate these kids were 11,12. Just let them go and have fun! I know a handful of guys that made it far, even to the NHL, and guess what, their parents were the most mellow, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yep pretty much explains these parents.

Amanda, yea I don't know. I don't think he's going to be a pro or anything like many of those parents do. It was something for him to do, that he begged us to let him do, and I was totally against it actually. I didn't think he was ready, but this league said: Beginner. Suuure.

Ethan's gift is music. He can play music by ear, pick up an instrument and teach himself how to play it. Thats where he is strong. Hockey and competitive sports aren't really his thing. But he's having fun and thats all that matters.

However his coach talked to me for a bit and said that for a kid who's never played before he saw potential. So I guess thats good. Still hard to watch him fall and get checked though. I just wanna beat those kids down who push him! He can't even skate well! Don't push him!

I love him so much. I just want to keep him well.

It was cute though guys, at the start they had to do the whole "skate up and down the ice backwards and forwards" exercises and Ethan was always the last one. Everyone else would be back at the end of the rink and Ethan would persevere and finish what he started.. even though it took him an extra minute. I thought that was ADORABLE!

He did have fun and he thought he did really well. But I told him we would have him practice more.

I'll post pictures soon. We took some with the iphone.

He's the one who is all in black closest to the front.

Awww. I hope he gets good enough to be able to somewhat keep up with his team mates. I don't want this to ruin his self esteem. :(

Awe. If he already improved from 1st to 3rd period, he'll be fine. I bet a few private lessons on the ice and he'll be flying around the ice too. No worries. At least he came off the ice and said how fun it was. That means he wasn't worried about his performance and really had fun first. He'll get there.

I just thought of this. I quit figure skating when I was 16 because one day my brother said to me "You look like Wendle Clark in figure skates." He was right. I sucked. I wasn't graceful at all. 12 years of lessons and I never really improved. I always just hulked around. Finally after 12 years - someone told me the truth.

My parent's finally admitted I sucked when I was well into adulthood.

Yea they start playing REAL games next week though.. I'm terrified.

He'll be fine. Practice will help him. I had him in short track speed skating when he was 6 and 7 and thats the extent of his on-ice skating and he was really good at that at the time. But he's 10 now so it's been a while and speed skating and ice skating are two very different things. It's really my fault and stupidity for throwing him to the dogs today without really putting him on the ice beforehand to condition his legs a little more. You live, you learn. I feel really bad. Its really my issue, not his, he had fun. But I still feel bad. I need a couch to lay on and a therapist.

Yea Ethan was terrible at karate... I finally just took him out when all the other kids went on to yellow belt and he was still a white.

Yea I asked Ethan how he think he did and he said great, but I told him that he would need to practice. I am taking him tomorrow to the free skate so he can practice skating. I don't want to push him too hard, but I know I have to push him a bit. Hockey is an aggressive sport and I didn't want him playing it for that exact reason.

The great thing is you can watch over him for the next while and see how he improves and then make a judgement call based on that, because if for any reason he doesnt pick up on it, I'm sure he won't like the idea of being 16 skating with 10 year olds  If hes having fun definately make sure you get him out on the ice a bit more to help him, and I will mentally cheer for him from here
