Happy sweat session JillA.

Yippee!!

Thanks Charles for taking care of us.

As for the Wii, we each have laptops...and really, truly, although I played it once and I actually liked it (I don't play video games, ha!), I have already put it on Craigslist.

We can return it to the store, but they would only give us a credit. Really I/we don't want to buy more stuff. The preparation for leaving Chicago has already commenced.

Uncluttering...it's a process! Hee, hee.

WHEE!!!

My husbands granny gave my son a dream catcher for Christmas and his gift was wrapped in paper that had teepees on it... teepees that were decorated with Christmas lights.

Then she asked us what we ate on Christmas, if we ate moose or bears.

Yea we eat moose, then we do our war cry and do a ceremonial dance around the Christmas tree!

They looked surprised when I said we had turkey and all the fixings.

She was all proud of her gift though: "I ordered it from a Church on an Indian reservation in South Dakota!"

My husband gets really embarrassed when his granny does that and she does it quite a bit. She cross stitched me this native girl dancing around and it was nice but its like... sort of odd. I can't explain it. It's awkward.

I ended the game with my husband early last night! He used tiny words, totally jammed up the board and we couldn't go anywhere! Then he tried to pass off "Meen" as a word! He couldn't even define it and the scrabble dictionary didn't recognize it either!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. i get so frustrated when people play like that.

If u were in Canada, I may have bought it off of ya! My parents in Saskatoon are looking for a Wii! We have 1 and we quite enjoy it!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yeah, too bad. Thanks Flames.

Sprailenes, that is so typical of people who just do not know.

And they are trying so hard...and it is so awkward...they are so cutely ignorant! Ha!

I remember every time I met a new person in "rural" BC (when I first moved there), the conversation would go something like this:

them: Where are you from?

me: Montreal

them: No but where were you born?

me: Montreal.

them: You have a strange accent.

me: My family comes from Greece. I learned many languages all at once.

them : Oh I love Greece. Do you know Nana Mouskouri...or are you related to (insert any Greek person's name here)?

sigh

After a few such encounters I started saying that she was my sister.

I know it is awkward but in its own way it is also very sweet. Her intentions are well meaning and caring - she just doesn't know that her information is skewed. The best you can do is say thank you - because truly the gift is one of thoughtfulness and love - however ignorant, and then work on educating them so they can gain a better understanding of your culture. Think of it - she sent away to South Dakota - that took effort and initiative and even some creativity. She really was trying to do something that she thought would please you and that says a lot about how important you are to her. She is trying to let you know you matter. Best to cultivate a sense of humour too, though; you'll probably need it.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hi ho hi ho its back to work I go. It seems pointless to go to work for two days and then be off again but oh well, no complaints here.

Thinking of heading up to Rhode Island this weekend to see a Chihuly exhibit. Its only gonna be there until the fourth so it would be nice to go.

Oh I know she's just really naive and has NO clue whatsoever. I have tried to explain to her that I don't use a bow and arrow and she doesn't listen, she still thinks my mom hunts with one. She's... how do you say it? Touched... slow? Sort of. She also wants to move to a town in PA because there is no black people there.

She once told her husband to watch out because my son would scalp him. I laugh it off though when usually I would say something to someone, only because she is old and very naive. I dont know, its just acceptably unacceptable.

Anyways she's german so I have started asking her about nazis. She doesn't like that, but I get a kick out of it. :)

Good morning all.

Oh and if flames does buy it, I don't think there is any duty on importing video games to Canada.

Anyhoo, took down le little tree yesterday and when I went to get the boxes for the glass balls I had a look at the 4 boxes I didn't use this year and - yes - lots of broken ones in there. Oh well!

Aww I come in this morning and our golf pro gave me a 20.00 gift card to starbucks. Just to say thanks for helping him wrap gifts before christmas. How nice!

And then our GM gave me a gift which is still sitting wrapped on my desk... I'll open it in a while.

I am so fortunate to have such a good job with very caring coworkers.
