Just stopping in for a quick hello. Did a lot of shopping today with my mom and now we're getting ready to go see a movie. I introduced my mom to DSW shoes... my mom loves shoes... but not like regular girlie shoes... she loves sneakers! So she bought us matching pairs. :P

Then I took her out to Philly for a real steak sandwich at Jim's and she loved it! Its been a busy day indeed.

:D

We're off to see the Watchmen. Byebye!

That's great! Glad to hear you're having fun!! My Mom really wants to try a Philly cheesesteak, we were too busy at Christmas but I promised her in the summer I'll take her into the city.

Enjoy the movie!

Thanks Jill!

The movie... well I really wasn't impressed, they pretty much squished the entire series into the one movie so it was mashy and sort of jumpy. It didn't flow but this is just my opinion and I know tons of people thought it was great and thats fine too.

Donne moi une poptart!

Marilyn, you can so just write back non-citizen and you'll not have to serve.

I'm off to Edmonton tomorrow. Got a crazy good last minute deal today on Alaska Air. My family is super-excited. I think in the past 7 months they forgot all the drama I cause. One week is just enough time to remind them.

Aloha All :star:

Good morning all! Thanks for pouring coffee this morning charles! I'll check before I post this week. Gene is in a training class at a facility about 5 min. from home all this week and so he'll be leaving at about 7 am or so. I usually post after he's left for work in the morning so I'll be late this week. If someone wants to post coffee that would be lovely, if not, I'll post when I log on.

So glad to hear that you're neighbours have left...or are they just quiet Em?

We had a lovely weekend this weekend. The weather was spectacular. We took a day trip out to a small German town a few hours away on Saturday and geocached, walked around in some antique stores and have a lovely lunch at the Vintage Restaurant (1874) at a local winery. Very lovely.

My week will be all mixed up this week due to Gene leaving later. I love the man dearly, but my schedule will be all out of whack this week!

Enjoy your day!

good to see you, i thought since there's been no coffee yet that something happened to you.

i spent all weekend painting the baby room. :dead:

Good morning everyone! Well, Gene went to his first class yesterday of his training, and realized soon into it, that it was one he'd already taken before! They had a different name to it, so he didn't know. So, it's back to his regular work for the rest of the week.

charles...that was thoughtful of you to care what happened to me! What colour did you paint the baby's room? Do you know the gender yet?

How's your family visit going Marilyn? Have a fabulous time MrsCat! Aloha!

Enjoy your day everyone!

I got a jury duty summons today

I am assuming because I am not a citizen I can't serve on the jury...

Yep.. i had a summons a few weeks ago.. In CT there is a website you can go to respond. I told them I wasn't a citizen, and they still kept sending me summons.. so I called and told them that they were sending summons to my old address (first off) and she said "oh well then you are out of our jurisdiction then, you can't serve".. and i said... "what I REALLY called to say is that i'm not a citizen" and she said .. "well you can't serve then" :bonk: :bonk: DUH... I got a letter yesterday excusing me on the basis that I was out of jurisdiction.. From my experience these are not the brightest gov. agencies :)

it says I need to call them before I can mail back the form :P

What bugged me about the CT summons is that I had to put my own stamp on the return envelope.. the ponks didn't even pay for the return postage.. cheap buggers :bonk:

haha That's interesting. I didn't know you could be summoned by a jury unless you are registered to vote.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I belive they get it off your drivers license as well!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Some of these houses we are looking at have septic tanks - which is rather foreign to me. So, while my information about septic tanks skirts around actually doing any reading on the subject, I decided I actually had to look them up so I know how they work - which I found is how I thought they work.

It's funny, it's not like we live in a backwater somewhere - I can walk to city hall from here - but I did read in the city notes yesterday that they are talking about providing sewer pipes to the whole city :hehe:

It's funny, just reading the girly thread and the ban on bikini waxes in NJ.

What is funny is how everything has a warning on it now, was reading that thread and thinking about how every window in this house has a warning sticker on it that opening a window can be dangerous!

So while getting cereal just now I wondered if they have a warning on Soy Milk - sure enough - 'not to be used as infant formula'
