Does anybody know if there's a way he can have his health insurance covered until he gets a social security card? He's from the Netherlands, so I wasn't sure if anyone had experience with this.

Thanks!

I added to my medical insurance my wife the day after our marriage, NO SSN needed.

If your insurance insists on SSN you may want to make them aware that SSN only usable for financial reasons, (Taxes), it is not an ID document.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Concur. I added my wife with name and DOB only (had to fax in the marriage cert) only as soon as I got back to work after we got married. Keep in mind that the "life changing event" window of marriage is limited (in our case I believe it was 30 days) after which you have to wait until the next annual enrollment period to enroll your husband in your health insurance.

i don't get it.

It's not up to your health insurance company to add or make any changes to your policy. If you have private health insurance you get thru your employer, that change has to go thru them. The health insurance company just administers your benefits. Your HR or someone who handles your benefits issues should be able to help. An SSN isn't needed.

There has been a few threads, here is one fairly recently, that talks about health care if you can't be added right away to your spouses insurance. It's in the Moving to American forum.

Hope you find some answers there!
