I like the term soft drink...like the opposite of a hard drink.

But you do know what pop is, right?

I really just want to know if most people know what I'm asking for if I said, "What kind of pop do you have?"

Based on this very unscientific thread, it seems that most do!

If I were at a party at your house, and you asked me what I'd like to drink and I, in turn, ask you what kind of pop you have, would you know what I was referring to?

Yes, I would know what you mean a soda

It is very regional, but everyone should know the major ones like pop or coke. Now, if you asked for a fizzy, i'd have to guess a bit at that one.

You say soda, I say pop...let's call the whole thing off!

As long as you don't force me to use the term soda, we can be friends. :P

I'm in generic "coke" country. I call it soda. I know what pop is -- my mom's from Ohio, and I've heard it used enough to have picked it up otherwise. But I don't pronounce "pop" correctly. ;)

I think anyone who lives here in the states would have to be living under a rock not to know pop=soda=soft drink.

Back when worked in grocery retail, the same kind of thing happened with grocery carts. Some people call them baskets, buggies (mostly Canadian). :)

Nah, not quite that extreme. I just don't pull the corners of my mouth back quite as far as my cousins do. :D
