Hi everyone! My husband has arrived to the U.S and I would like to know what is the next step for him to get his social security card for him to work!

Also when he arrived in p.o.e jfk they kept his envelope with all the paper work the embassy sent him with is that normal!?

Yes, CBP keeps the envelope that says "do not open". When you file AOS for a K3 visa holder would depend on your priorities. If he needs to work soon, then file right away along with filing EAD. (Employment Authorization Document) If there's no hurry to work, wait until about three months before your second wedding anniversary to file, so the 10 year card is issued. Alternatively, you could file EAD separately and pay the fee, then wait to file AOS. No SSN can be applied for without EAD or the Green Card, whichever comes first but for tax purposes you can file a W7 with your return and get him and ITIN.
