WASHINGTON (AFP) – The Guantanamo 'war on terror' detention center should remain open indefinitely, Vice President Richard Cheney told ABC News in an interview Monday, while also defending the harsh interrogation method known as waterboarding.

Cheney was asked when the detention camp at the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba can be "responsibly" be shut down. "Well, I think that that would come with the end of the war on terror," he told ABC.

And when is that? "Well, nobody knows," Cheney said. "Nobody can specify that."

Unbelievable

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

So the Guantanamo Bay prison should be closed; and the detainees released without further delay?

they should get trials without further delay

I think they need to waterboard bush and chaney.. let them sit there for a few years, see how they like it?.. I think they need to close it down right away! I always thought America was better than torture and better than the methods of the crooks in office at the minute. The people being held there need to be tried sent though the process and legally jailed or returned home. At this point I wouldn't be so worried about letting a couple of possible terrorists loose.. bush and chaney have made 1000's of binladens in Iraq by now I'm sure.

Honestly I think if there were any justice in the world they'd just close the place down and release them all. When police abuse the rights of a suspect, any evidence they collect is inadmissible and must be thrown out in a trial. We certainly abused our authority, no matter how guilty any of these guys are. The manner in which these suspects were rounded up was so haphazard that it wouldn't surprise me if the only terrorists at Gitmo were there through blind luck. Many of the Gitmo detainees are there because the Army was putting a bounty on the heads of "terrorists." Warring factions in Afghanistan would turn in members of enemy tribes simply for revenge and to collect bounties. Gitmo is a complete cluster-f*** and they need to just turn 'em all loose and start over.

Well, Mox, this is a very short sighted perspective. Haphazard arrests? I don't think so.

None of us on the outside, really know the potential threats that these detainees might pose against the US. We cannot, simply "dispose of" the potential threats that the USG has clearly vetted against these people. As a citizen, I am not willing to take that risk. Why do you accept the risk?
