All went well, took about 2 hrs from start to finish. 99% of that time was spent waiting and sitting! Actual ceremony itself was around 25 minutes. I think i had the easiest name to say, but she screwed it up, not sure how, but she did,lol Never in my life had I heard my name like that, and its an English name,too funny! Nice to be done with immigration. No disrespect to the Americans on here, but its more of a sad day than anything. i have no problems following the conditions set forth to be a US citizen, but I consider myself,and always will consider myself to be Canadian! USA is a great country and I really have nothing negative to say about it, people are great too. I must admit, I did wear my Canadian socks,lol. Well back to the books, study time for a big final exam on Thursday!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

Hi Flames9,

Congratulations on becoming an American citizen (or dual American/Canadian Citizen) today! Thanks for sharing your experience about your oath ceremony here on VJ, as that helps too (as well as updating your VJ timeline and signature). Lol...funny how the ceremony person would screw up an English name. I guess since they're used to other foreign names, a Canadian English name sounds foreign to them instead? Lol...funny too, with the Canadian socks....Oh well, I guess they definitely know where you are from with that on! Did anyone else notice those socks? Hmmmm....I was thinking about wearing something "Canadian" when it's my turn too for the oath next year or the year after....

I agree, "Once a Canadian, always a Canadian!", Socks and Timmy's coffee and all! Celebrate your special "American" day today with a cup of Timmy's coffee!...lol....

By the way, were there any other Canadians during your oath ceremony? Did they announce your country of former citizenship (Canada) during your ceremony too? Good luck on your exam coming up too.
