My husband's GC was recieved with a mistake on the spelling of his middle name. We filled out the form for correction and proof that it was immigrations fault and returned this to the National Benefits Center in Missouri 10/24/08. Has anybody had to deal with this issue before and how long was it before the correct GC was recieved? My husband has a job lined up but they said he has to show his GC before they hire him and the Welcome Letter is not sufficient enough. Any information you can provide is appreciated, thanks!

It can take up to 6 months to get the corrected card. What you can do is make an infopass appointment at your local USCIS office and request a I-551 stamp in his passport, this acts as a temp greencard and is good for both work and international travel. Make sure you take a copy of the I-90 form that you sent so that they can see you have applied for a replacement card.

As for work all he need to show to comply with the I-9 is an unrestricted SSN card and a state ID/Drivers Licence ot the I-551 stamp.

What do you mean by an unrestricted SSN card? His says something like authorization to work must be approved by dhs on it. Do I need to take him to SS to have this removed?

He needs to get the I-551 stamp in his passport first or the Greencard then he can go to the SSA office and get the restriction removed of his SSN card. that way all he needs to satisfy the I-9 for employment is his new SSN card and his state ID/DL.
