problems with i pod

if I reset to original factory settings, will I have to pay for all those ruddy updates again?

I have one of those touches, and cos i bought it at xmas last, most of the apps on there i had to pay for as updates, even though they are on the current versions for no extra price

thing is the last few nights its been playing up and i think i may have to restore to factory settings. it wont connect to the net (wifi) , even though when i go into net connections it shows as connected but when i try and use it it says not connected or unable to connect. and that little radar icon (wifi bar) at the top of the screen has vanished. i am assuming this might be software related, so i thought try restore first, but if i do that i assume all the updates i paid for will disapear as they were not there when i bought it. And I don't want to pay almost another £20 for them again.

has anyone had this problem before?

I would think going back to the factory settings shouldn't wipe out your updates. Don't have one those, so not really sure. If it reboots, it should still retain your upgrades tho.

The I-Pod or I-phone is associated with a Apple I-tunes account, resetting the device and then resynchronizing with I-tunes restores the device applications and any music purchased on i-tunes.

I have hard reseted my 2 i-pods several times.

Is Apple still pulling this #######? Purchased a Mac some time ago with the OS preloaded, HD crapped out, Apple wanted 300 bucks for the disks, told them to go to hell, scraped the Mac, and stuck with the PC. But they are getting just as bad with preloaded OS and all of that other trial software that takes hours to remove. Where's the disk? Some computers are so fouled up, no choice but to reformat and reload. If you have the disk.

With the latest marketing goodies, even before I switch a new computer on, pull the HD out and back it up on another computer, then get rid of all that #######, and make backup's of that of the cleaned up version, that doesn't take eleven CD's, more like one or two, I have had no success in backing up on DVD's, get nothing but garbage. HP is not too bad, 15 bucks for back up disks, but still loaded with all that #######. Oh, for the days when you got a Windows CD with a computer.

Dell is also on my screw you list, purchased an Axim that crashed, claimed they had a backup disk for 30 bucks, was on the phone for hours with them, was obsolete on the Axim that was a tad over a year old. But after a lot of digging, was able to find the OS on the web plus instructions on how to reload it. Really crazy, needed twenty fingers to do it, hold four buttons down while pressing other buttons three times in less than a half a second while standing on my head.

Finally got smart and won't buy anything unitl I am sure I can get a backup OS, all computers crash for one reason or another, on these tiny devices the OS is stored on flashram and if your device gets either a bit too warm or cold, the OS can be corrupted, and oh gosh, keep that thing miles away from a drop of water, that will kill it instantly.

Wife was interested in buying a GPS for our vehicle, started looking, same old ####### in trying to find not only the OS, but map upgrades, the low initial price sounds good, but once you get in bed with them, expect to get screwed royally. Ah, let's just use a roadmap, probably will end up driving into a tree, fooling around with all those buttons. And why do they include a 180 page operating manual when the box says, it is easy to use?

That 300 bucks was years ago, and I already paid for the license to use it and a disk only costs about twenty cents, 300 bucks was a ripoff, goodbye Apple. And they are charging 100 bucks now for an upgrade? Still a ripoff.

Have to admit I was dumb for paying 200 bucks for Windows XP Professional version, tried it first on an old computer without reading the licensing agreement, only about a zillion pages long. Putting it on my main computer caused it to crash, contacted MS, only licensed for one computer and they mean just that. They just started that with XP, but at least the upgrades are free, and you do need upgrades, like a zillion of them, should be paid by them for all the time spend fooling around with this stuff trying to get it and keep it working.
