COULD SOME TELL ME IF BEING RESIDENT IN COLOMBIA FOR SIX MONTHS HELPS THE FILING PROCESS? SHOULD MY WIFE AND I FILE NOW OR WAIT UNTIL AFTER I HAVE BEEN RESIDENT IN COLOMBIA FOR 6 MONTHS. I HAVE BEEN LIVNG WITH MY WIFE FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS YET I HAD TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY SEVERAL TIMES WHEN MY VISA EXPIRED. DOES THE TIME I SPENT BEFORE BECOMING A LEGAL RESIDENT MATTER?

Do you want to file your petition in Colombia? Have you asked the Consulate if you can file now, or should wait?

YES, I WILL BE FILING IN COLOMBIA. I HAVENT ASKED THE EMBASSY. I HAVE HEARD THAT IT IS NOT EASY TO SPEAK WITH ANYONE OR ASK QUESTIONS.

DO U KNOW IF IT WOULD BE BETTER TO FILE CR-1 OR SOME OTHER? WHAT IS THE FASTEST METHOD?

mrsteve must not use all caps in his posts, otherwise he will not get answers because it is rude to shout.

That said. See this link here.

Yes, you have to be a resident at least 6 continuous months in Colombia to file DFC. And yes DCF is almost always the fastest way to obtain an immigrant visa. If you tell us who you're filing for, then maybe we can tell you which visa to file.

That link at the Bogota embassy provides pretty clear instructions on how to file DCF for IR-1. Basically prepare an I-130, obtain an appointment for filing, file the I-130, and wait for the consulate to process the petition.

Good luck to you and check out the DCF forum.
