My fiancee will be entering through JFK, and we hope she gets the EAD. I work at a University campus store, and they are always looking for people to hire, especially during rush (new students arrival), even for a few weeks as employee turnover is really high. Plus they know my fiancee can work there later and any experience, even a few weeks, will be useful to them. I am guessing that once she gets the SSN, she can work a week or so after the usual HR and background check, in brief the EAD at the airport can be useful for up to 6 to 8 weeks. Additionally, I think that showing you are willing to work immediately after entry can only be a positive thing for the AOS application and interview. Maybe I am naive, but I think that if you can get it, it won't hurt! By the way, it just happens that her - relatively cheap - flight (TAM) goes though JFK, we were not shooting for JFK at any cost.

She should be able to get the work stamp in her passport at JFK. Remind her to ask for it if they don't give it to her automatically. It won't be a separate card like the EAD is. Good luck - it sounds like she is one of the ones who will be able to put her work authorization to good use while the I-94 is still valid. USCIS isn't that concerned about her work availability, however, since you will be signing an affidavit of support and submitting that with her Adjustment of Status (I-485 AOS) application after you are married. It is good for the two of you, however.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

We saw everything in the brown envelope (medical forms that were filled out by the foreign civil surgeon, original petition and supporting documentation, and all the other stuff from the embassy) in the big paper file at our AOS interview. We guessed that the airport immigration officer collects them, forwards them to some central location, and they get placed in the main A-file as part of the permanent record.

We live in Texas but POE was San Francisco. POE doesnt appear to matter

I know its a bit early now, but we were planning for my fiance to have his POE at JFK although I am in Chicago, and the only reason, of course, the EAD stamp. But we will be filing for his AOS in Chicago since we will be living there (I am in Chicago now).

1.) I wanted to know what happens to the "brown envelope" after he hands it over to immigration at POE?

2.) Will it matter that we will be living in Chicago but he had POE at JFK?

Thanks!
