My brother had a greencard for 5 years and got married in Pakistan. he applied for his wife and now he became US citizen few days ago. I would like to know what is next step for him? does he need to apply for status change? and what about his wife? does US citizen require a different visa apply? please let me know in details. Any advice is appriciated. thanks.

Your brother should notify the Social Security Administration that he is now a US citizen so they can up date their records. If he has sponsored his wife while he was a green card holder, he also needs to notify USCIS using the case number for his sponsorship petition that he is now a citizen. There is a long waiting period for spouses of green card holders but his wife is eligible for immediate processing now that he is a citizen. I don't know the exact procedure to notify them but perhaps someone else will.

NOTE Adjustement of status forum has to do with persons adjusting status from a NON-Immigrant visa like a K-Visa, this post belongs in "Bringing family members of US Citizens to America" forum.

If he applied for an immigrant visa for his wife, and the petition is on hold at USCIS he should send a copy of naturalization cert along with a copy of I-130 NOA1 and a coverletter indicating status change from LPR to Citizen, this will get the petition chanfed from F-2 to IR-1.

IF already past NOA2 and the petition is sitting at NVC due to being F-2 for a spouse of an LPR, he can contact NVC, and request instructions on how to change from F-2 to IR-1, mor than likely a copy of naturalization cert will need to be sent to NVC.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.
