The Washington area’s job count in October rose by 35,700 over the same month last year, according to the Department of Labor.

Employment stood at 3,040,900 in October, or a gain of 1.2 percent over the previous year.

...

Of the 12 largest metro areas across the U.S., only three others -- Boston, Dallas and Houston -- also saw job increases over last October.

Many people are too lazy to move where the jobs are.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Indeed. Immigrants aren't though.

There's some value to having a workforce that hasn't had generations to build 'ties' to a particular region. They tend to be highly mobile and willing to meet demand, wherever that demand may be!

I'd move if a job will give me higher pay, and the costs of living is the same.

What if the cost of living is higher but the pay increase is even more, leaving you with a net increase in income?

There are loads of jobs in the DC Metro area with good salaries. I don't know why there aren't more people moving here personally. We have 25 year olds in our office on six figure salaries, nice homes, and great futures. Move here everyone !

I wish I can believe that. Six-Figure income is more than my sister's professor from Harvard. She gets paid about 200k/year. I wish I could get a job like that.

(NOTE: The professor teaches at Harvard and Simmons College. My sister went to Simmons.)

Low six-figure (100k-150k) incomes are commonplace around here too. Academia is known to not pay well.
