At my brothers appartment where vacuuming is scarce, we have a 1 second rule due to the filthiness of the carpet. I figure 1 second is just not enough time for something to be covered in bacteria or whatever but 5 seconds is just too long in that case.

actually i don't think the seconds actually matter, 3 or 5, if it fell on a carpet i'd certainly not pick it up and eat eek, carpets are the bacteria planet, but like in my bedroom, wood floor, i don't ever wear shoes in it, i clean it well, so it's all good
