As long as the conditions under which the H-1 visa was granted are still valid (still working for the same employer, etc.), then yes, you can use your H-1 visa to travel in and out of the US. As soon as the conditions under which the H-1 visa was issued are not valid, then you must use AP to be able to reenter the US.

so i guess i don't need an AP

Just be sure you understand that you MUST maintain your H1-B terms for this to be true. If you violate any part of your H-1 status, you become merely an AOS applicant, and would need AP.
