I believe (provided the woman isn't on a chemical birth control that can cause a miscarriage) that God deceided it wasn't time to have a baby. That must be in his plan.

If someone doesn't become pregnant after trying a lot...isn't THAT God's plan also?

So, following that, do you also believe that fertility treatments are just as sinful as abortion?

No.

Well, why? Aren't fertility treatments messing with God's plan?

The point is why does a married woman not have access to Plan B if there are reasons that speak against the pregnancy, like the fact that she's 42 and on medication that would be harmful for the baby and for her. Why does she have to abort instead of taking a pill which is much less invasive?

A better question is - why did this woman not use birth control in the first place? Oh that's right, she "forgot." Right, so go blame it on anyone but yourself.

What if she had used birth control and gotten pregnant. She would be in the same bind. I also don't think that calling her doctor the day after having unprotected sex shows that she was not taking responsibility or trying to put the blame elsewhere. She, and probably a lot of other women, was under the impression that Plan B was available without a problem, or that getting an abortion since it is a legal procedure wasn't as difficult as it turned out to be.

It is because of the problems she encountered which are a direct result of current government policies (and I'm not just talking about Bush but also Congress and the FDA), that she's blaming the government. And rightly so. Since Plan B is a contraceptive used after unprotected sex, there's no reason for a woman to go through an abortion, unless she's denied access due to certain policies.

FWIW, I do wonder if it's not worth asking why her husband didn't have a vasectomy.

And I don't think that some of her words were well-chosen.

I agree. If they decided to be stop having children, a vasectomy would have been a good idea.

And, you're right about her writing style. She could have done that differently...

I was actually struck by the fact that Rush focused so entirely on the opening paragraph and added some other random quote, but didn't address the real problem described in the article: that our doctors don't have to tell us why they refuse to assist us in case of need, that it has become more difficult to have abortions, and that even if women don't want abortions and decide to opt for Plan B, access is heavily restricted.

Unfortunately that's no surprise to me - Rush has made a career of being a loud mouthed agitator, nothing ruins a good story or pours cold water on flaming outrage like actually reading the story behind the headline. Makes you wonder if he actually read the NYT article in its entirety before he started trapping off about it. What's so distasteful about it is that it suggests that the crux of every news story can be reduced down to the headline and lead-in copy. Of course the hard-core of Limbaugh's audience who think that the New York Times is the Socialist Worker under a different name, probably don't care.

It's pathetic really that people resort to sniping at others from behind the security blanket of their own ignorance while ignoring the very real issues that are presented. Objecting to criticisms of the president and government based solely on an out of context newspaper headline seems a bit desperate to me.

That said, the Plan B issue is still out there - and still unaddressed. I don't even think Rush would touch that one - might actually require him to use his brain before he engages his fat mouth ;)

Bar getting caught out by a lack of information on the availability of morning after pills, I'm not sure what she did - except blame the government (sorry conservative government). Regardless, the government (as a broad body) is at least partly to blame. Restricting the availability of a drug forces someone to go through a difficult, painful and unnecessary medical procedure.

agree, but it was the doctors that made it difficult for her to get the prescription... not the government, unless you want the government forcing the doctors to write prescriptions for their patients no matter what kind of prescription they want?!
