Hello all.

I know that they topic title might be confusing, let me try and explain.

I was just looking at the airfares to try and get an idea of how much it wil cost to fly during peak season. I realized that the only one-way flight from Denmark to the US, has a stop in New York - and my destination is California.

Now, has any of you had trouble with immigration at these airports, where you have to catch a connecting flight ???

Please share your experiences, thank you :)

just make sure your connecting flight is at least a couple of hours layover, otherwise you'll probably miss it.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

More like 4 hours. You don't want to be worrying about missing your flight while going through immigration. Immigration is tough enough.

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

11-07-2005 AP approved

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

01-28-2006 Received replacement SSN card in married name (5 wks since application)

03-01-2006 AOS interview -- approved; received stamp in the passport

03-13-2006 Green card arrived in the mail

Oh, I'm starting to get the picture. If I chose to fly this this with a stop in New York, I will have to deal with immigrating exactly the same as I would if I had flown directly to California???

Okay, so I will spend hours in New York for immigration questioning etc, get on the plane and fly to California, where the same procedure will happen again :o Or will it only be one time dealing with immigration in New York and nothing in California???

I don't like the idea of spending hours and hours in both airports  If it's just one, then it's okay :)

Thank you for all your replies and help :D

Just one last question. I posted the same question over at I2U, and one of them answered the same but said that: "after immigration is done, I can then return to get my bags and load them on to the plane to California." Ummm, doesn't my luggage go directly to Cali ?? Do I really have to go to luggage claims and take my luggage, then stand in line to put them on the next plane ???? :o

Normaly because security is very tight in at the US airports, you will go through immigration, then get your bags, go through customs, then right after that you will leave your bags to be to be security checked & put on your other flight!!

you dont have to wait with them, you just leave them there

See if round trip tickets are less expensive--you do not have to use a one way ticket, and they often cost more. DO do the airline the courtesy of telling them 9once you are at your destination) if you will not be using the return portion of your ticket.

Since we also live on the West Coast, most every flight from Europe will stop somewhere else in the US before getting us home. It is OK to have a POE that's different from your final destination.

DO allow at least 3 hours connection time. Less is asking for trouble. :)
