Anyone has experience going to Caribbean while I-751 is pending?

We are thinking of going on vacation in January or February, and we are finding some really good deals to the Caribbean (either visiting one specific country - not sure which one yet- or going on a multi-country cruise). Given VSC's slow processing times, we don't expect my husband's removal of conditions to be complete by then.

Filipinos usually need a tourist visa to visit any countries in this region, but U.S. Permanent Residents are exempt from the visa requirement. Since my husband doesn't have a valid Green Card, I'm concerned about how he will be able to prove his Permanent Resident status to avoid applying for a tourist visa.

I am not as worried about returning to the U.S. since it seems the U.S. Immigration staff here in the airports are familiar with the extension letter. However, I don't know if Immigration staff in Caribbean countries will accept his NOA1 letter as proof of his staus, and allow him to enter without having a tourist visa. Also have no idea how it works on a cruise, since I haven't been on one before.

Is it too risky to plan a cruise or other vacation to the Caribbean without a Green Card in hand? If anyone has any experience or advice, we'd appreciate it.

Hello. My husband went to the Caribbean - Jamaica two weeks ago with no green card. He travelled with a I-155 stamp passport and his NOA 1 extension letter and had no problems. We are waiting for VSC's approval.

This should not be an issue, however, you may want to schedule an info pass and get an I-551 stamp in passport.

The neighboring islands in the Caribbean recognize the I-551 (Green-card) and allow entry without Visa, however it is unknown as to what they do with the NOA1 Extension letter.

The Extension letter and expired green-card is all that is needed to re-enter the USA after a trip abroad.

Hello,it shouldn't be a problem at all. i have been traveling back and forth to the Carribean with my extension letter like about 3 times and i never had any problems. so Enjoy it

Thanks very much for all the replies! If anybody here experienced traveling to the Caribbean specifically with a passport from a country that would normally require a tourist visa to go there, please share. At this point, we are probably going to stay closer to home just to beon the safe side, if we end up going anyplace, but might try getting the passport stamp.

that would be me too. i went to the carribean with my passport and didn't equire any visa of any kind. although if i didn't have me expired green card and NOa i would have needed a visa. i hope that answered your question
