I actually thought that was what the thread was about.......

My wedding gown had tiny seed pearls all over it. And I wore pearl earrings and THE most awesome pearl bracelet in the world.

But then I am WASP, you know.

Having been on a yacht or to a country club does not a wasp make. I think the whole wasp thing may be a New England thing. Think Charlotte from Sex and the City.

But anyway, JMHO about pearls.

There are LOADS of pearl combinations out there that have anything but a 'classic' look to them (ie single strand strung one right after the other). I own a pearl (fake) necklace that is 60 inches long with the occasional pearl interspaced.

I'm getting the impression that many classic styles of dress would be considered WASP to you, Jenn, if you consider pearls to be 'WASP-y.'

Which is a classless expression, btw.

Sorry, I really meant no offense. I've never known it as an offensive term. Preppy probably would have been the better way to go to get across my meaning.

I stand by my own associations though, that's just what they are. And yes, I find many so-called classic styles, um, well I don't know what to call it now... Like tying a cardigan around your neck - is that a classic style? And by pearl necklace, I made the assumption the question was about your classic pearl necklace as opposed to a more funky-styled necklace made out of pearls.

And, btw, I really wouldn't think that you are a "you know what". Maybe it means something different to me...

I went to a conference for women today and I was observing the various styles of dress. For those that were wearing pearls, the rest of the outfit was of that same style. It is a certain look.

"waspy" is such a common term... it does mean a certain thing.. like shirts with your initials logod on them.. and the cardigan thing jenn referenced... i am not too observant about what people wear but i agree with her, it is a certain style... you can spot a 'waspy' looking person by style... of course people who are wasp by definition don't always comply to the style and plenty of ethnics dress and act waspy ... but that is still what people refer to the style behind their backs in whispered tones... waspy...
