Pearls can be classic or funky depending on how you wear them. But I'm English - I think it might be a national requirement to like them.

Then again I'm in my 30s now so perhaps I qualify as an old woman?

30 years old is really old when you ask a 10 years old

I'll gonna jump in with a comment ...

Some global areas specialize in different metals/ gems/ pearls/ etc. Do you ever wonder if this might reflect on a personal preference for jewelry styles?

And ... if you have moved to another country and/or station in life, how will this impact your original thoughts on jewelry?

 Pearls are timeless... Some settings/designs might be more funky or more formal, depends on what your outfit is and whats the occasion.. But a simple strand of pearl necklace, u can wear anywhere and anytime, casual/formal. Nothing old with that at all... Btw, congrats on the baby boy!

waspy? what's that?

I started the thread because natty PMed me asking if it's a brazilian thing to think pearls are for old women and I said I can't talk about other people, but I think pearls are ugly.

Then i was curious if it was a cultural thing or a preference thing.

WASP is an acronym for White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. Waspy is kind of like "preppy".

Pearls to me say country club and yachting. I personally would never wear them.

Appears that Michelle Obama wears pearls. Is this an indication that she is considered a Wasp?
