happy human rights day to all...

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

"Hippy" sister number x:

Terrific...happy human rights day.

We - well some of us that research this kind of thingie- in the U.S. and Canada are used to our rights being eroded, although we are in no way even remotely close to some other oppressed countries.

Without the framework of Human Rights - spawned from the carnage and destruction of the second world war, we would not be able to express a desire for equality for all, no matter where one is born, the religion one adheres to, ones sex or age. The declaration of Human Rights is something for all humanity to be proud of. Thanks to all who have worked on it, and all who strive to educate the world into accepting its articles and concepts.

If was truly worth more than the paper it was written on you'd would give us some fine examples where it improved human rights.

I am not your teacher, there are some mighty, mighty fine libraries in the USA.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

You are not much of a student Alien. Your head needs to go back in the sand because quite clearly you are not interested in humanity, equality and advancement of the human condition.

That makes two of us since you're clearly no teacher on this subject. You can't give examples of the positive impacts of a scrap of paper but you want people to blindly believe in what you're saying. You sound strangely like a religious zealot waving a holy book about before a doubter.

If you really cared about humanity would take a few minutes to do some research but humanity just ain't worth it beyond spouting some high-minded phrases to the choir.

Think for a moment. Wouldn't it be fair to say the human condition has improved by technology, medicine, telecommunication, mass sanitation, universal compulsory education. . . these things and much more made a far greater difference than a piece of paper that no one can directly credit for anything? If you didn't learn about these things and their relative contributions you should return to school and slap your teachers for cheating you out of a proper education.

I am not your teacher, I have already explained this concept to you, but yet you keep trying to force some kind of rationale to the idea that I must explain things to you. No, I am under no such obligation. If you are interested, off you go and find out. If not, then remain in ignorance, it really is your choice. I want no part in blind belief, that is yet another of your inventions and I certainly don't want you to believe something just because I say so, whatever next?

As for your 'proper education' the things you cite are irrelevant if you have no rights to access them but you can't quite grasp that concept either. Shove it back in the sand there mate, where it belongs.

UN report says human rights violations continue in Iraq

The United Nations mission in Iraq (UNAMI) says the human rights situation in the country remains serious despite great improvements in security conditions.

Iraqi-refugees.gif

In its latest report on the human rights in Iraq, UNAMI notes that there has been a marked drop in violent, high-visibility, high casualty attacks by militias or criminal gangs.

However, the report, which covers the first six months of this year says the targeted killings of journalists, educators, medical doctors, judges and lawyers have continued.

It also points to continuing criminal abductions for ransom and the targeting of religious and other minorities in Iraq.

More from Rupert Colville, the spokesman for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“The report highlights the situation of detainees across the country, including in the Iraqi Kurdistan region. Many detainees have been deprived of their liberty for months or even years often under harsh physical conditions without access to defense counsel and without being formally charged with any crime.”

The UN report says ill-treatment and torture of detainees by Iraqi law enforcement authorities continue with impunity.

It also calls for urgent measures to combat violence against women across Iraq, including so-called honour crimes widely reported in the Kurdistan region.

Diane Bailey, United Nations.

You can't teach what you yourself don't know. It was a fairly simple and straight-forward question but you failed except in finding new sandbox analogies. I didn't invent your beliefs nor use my mysterious powers you make an fool of yourself on Human Rights Day but how fitting anyway.

Giving no credit to a document that has little to no impact on civilization compared to all the advances I listed is a shame. Those advances gave us an educated and relatively healthly population that has had untold amounts of material wealth across the globe but you give all to a document that has done so little that few can quote and even fewer have enforced on that paper alone. Better stick to defensive sandbox analogies.

Do you really not read what is written? Educate yourself or not as YOU see fit I simply don't care one way or another. I find it very amusing, these things that you suggest I believe and don't believe as if you can dictate my opinion by dint some stupid suggestion that to believe in human rights is to deny any other forms of human advancement. How utterly absurd you are.

Psst: It's the SIXTIETH anniversary of the signing of the UDHR, not 58th. December 10, 1948....

Happy International Human Rights Day!

How fitting that P should get his greencard today :) (also makes one of the IO's questions really ironic)
