I hate this whole process and what it does to you... but who would not use contacts if one had them??? Sure there are times when it hurts to see people who started the process leap-frog ahead... but such is life... I have been waiting almost since kingdom come and for no fault of ours... papers sent to the wrong place... do I begrudge those who have got their visas and are already together with their lover??? Nope... use your contacts if you have them... most people would not have been so open about the matter... good luck in your journey.

true-it does seem so unfair at times, some people breeze through others take forever to get anywhere.

I have a retired Immigration Officer helping me prepare my paper work.

I also have connections in the government and else where to help Chris get a job when he gets here.

I know not quite the same but I still am using these people as much as I possibly can! I will be giving them flowers when we finish...*laugh*

It's unrealistic to think people will not take advantage of opportunities that are presented to them because it wouldn't be "fair". If you don't at least try, the only person you're hurting is yourself, and why would someone do that????

LOL...how ironic some of these comments. I recall a few of the ppl that have commented on here about being for using contacts telling me that it was unfair that a senator and congressman said that they would help me. I can even post their comments. Now this is the nasty side of me coming out. I have a very legit reason why our case should be expedited all of which are really none of anyones concern, but the moment I said that they were going to work on it, I got slagged off in here in a big way. I cannot say that it will work for the OP or not because I don't know what his/her personal reasons would be for it to be sped up, and it would also be down to the senator or congressman to be the judge of that. If you have contacts, then use them by all means. I have had other opportunities to use my "contacts" to get a good status job, but have turned down the use of them because I wanted to get the job using my own merit, but in this case, it is more of a life or death situation. I have also asked my congressman if there was anything I can do to help make a change in this god for saken system and I will be happy to let you know that when I get back to the states, I will be doing some voluntary work on my own accord and helping out with his office, and hopefully will be persuing something in the lines of immigration. Yes, I am a firm believer that even one person can make a difference...many of you may disagree with that, but at least I will be able to eventually say that I tried right??? I agree the whole world is about networking...and i believe that using ppl to get places in life has been going on for years and years...it aint gonna stop now...

We have a Federal Court Judge in our family and yes we used him to help with all our paperwork and used his connections to seek help when we had problems.... Why should we have paid a lawyer to do our paperwork when we could get it for free...

Did it help our case? No I dont think it did... but I never thought about it as jumping the line.... just using the resorces available to us....

I use contacts all the time....but...

I never use them till it's absolutely necessary. People important enough to help are generally very busy and have to pick and choose their projects. I like to have my advocate as much in my corner as possible. I don't want them to think I'm just an opportunist.

That's my opinion anyway. Not a judgment - just my philosophy.
