Pakistan: We're ready for war with India and we won't extradite suspects

Pakistan warned it is ready for war with India if it is attacked following the strike by the Mumbai terrorists.

The remarks by Pakistan's foreign minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who also insisted he would not hand over any suspects in the Mumbai attacks, come amid mounting tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

India has said it is keeping all options open following last month's carnage by the Mumbai terrorists, who killed more than 170 people.

"We do not want to impose war, but we are fully prepared in case war is imposed on us," said Mr Qureshi.

...

The minister also said that India's demands for the extradition of suspects in the Mumbai attacks were out of the question and that Pakistan, which has arrested 16 people since Saturday, would keep them on home soil.

"The arrests are being made for our own investigations. Even if allegations are proved against any suspect, he will not be handed over to India," Qureshi said.

damn... what does that mean? "Keeping all options open..."
"you want to start a war, we'll oblige you as we did in 1971!"

Bellicosity by Pakistan has been practically a fixture since military tookover in 1958--as the basis of the country's entire policy is hate of India.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

i am increasingly of the opinion that it'll take a full scale war to clean that hornets nest up. nothing less will suffice.

MULTAN, Pakistan – Pakistan has detained a second alleged mastermind of the Mumbai terrorist attacks, the prime minister said Wednesday, apparently making good on pledges to pursue the perpetrators.

The announcement of the arrest of Zarrar Shah — following Sunday's detention of another alleged Mumbai plotter, Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi and other alleged militants — could deflect intense U.S. and Indian pressure on Pakistan following the attack.

...

Pakistan has targeted militants in the past, detaining some leaders only to quietly release them later, bolstering critics who claim Islamabad is not serious about fighting extremists.

...

Islamabad has already said it will not hand them over to India.

...

Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani gave no details on Shah's arrest except that he and Lakhvi "were in (Pakistani) custody and were being investigated."

Both men are alleged to be members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a banned Pakistani militant group blamed for other attacks on Indian soil and with historical ties to the country's shadowy intelligence agencies.

I don't understand. I thought Pakistan was our ally in the war on terror? I'm confused.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

Actually, Musharraf PROCLAIMED HIMSELF an ally of Bush as he was afraid of Bush and Vajpayee colluding to invade Pakistan (sounds all-too-much like OBL's rantings about "Zionist-Crusader-Hindu conspiracy'? It's because OBL actually learned it from Zia ul-Haq's henchtoadys such as Akhtar Abdur Rehman and Siddiq Salik).

A Strong Message

11 Dec 2008

All over India, Eid celebrations on Tuesday were muted. Many Muslims wore black bands in protest against the Mumbai terror strikes while imams of several prominent mosques spoke out against terrorism and pledged to stand united against terrorists. The Shahi Imam of Delhi's Jama Masjid India's biggest mosque called the 'jihad' which took nearly 200 lives in Mumbai a crime against all people. He also slammed Pakistan for sponsoring terrorism in India. So did the imam of another prominent mosque, the Fatehpuri Masjid.

The nationwide protests on Eid by Muslims against the terror attacks weren't a one-off event. In the immediate aftermath of the Mumbai attack, the city's Muslims refused to allow the dead terrorists to be buried in Muslim graveyards. Earlier this week, Muslim organisations in Mumbai took out a rally to send the message that killers of innocent people are the enemies of Islam. And over the past few days, several Muslim icons of India, including Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, have spoken out against terrorism. These strong words and actions by India's Muslims are a slap in the face of groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba which are intent on spreading terror in the name of Islam and to supposedly avenge wrongs done to Indian Muslims. What Indian Muslims are saying is that terror has no religion. But by clearly speaking out against Islamist terrorism, India's Muslims are taking away any justification that the terrorists might claim for their bloody acts.

Groups like LeT not only want to spread immediate mayhem but eventually to break up India. India, with its 150-million Muslim minority population, is a direct challenge to Islamist terror groups. Nothing would please the terrorists more than if blasts and terror attacks were followed by communal violence. But every time there has been a terrorist act, Indians, irrespective of religion, have closed ranks. This has been so since 1993 when terrorists first struck in a big way in Mumbai. Since then there have been several terror attacks across India, but none has provoked rioting or large-scale violence.

Indian Muslims occupy a unique position. They're the largest Muslim minority anywhere and practise an Islam that is much more syncretic than elsewhere. At a time when radical Islamic ideologies are trying to gain the upper hand across the world, Indian Muslims could offer a compelling counter-narrative. Indian Muslims have already given a fitting answer to the Islamist groups that were behind the Mumbai terror attacks. The point now is to sustain the debate and to widen it further.

Actually, the Indian Muslim by very existence post-Partition has always been an impassable obstacle for the tenability of Pakistan's founding "two-nation theory" (which relied on the even more untenable "one-nation Islam" concept, though you will never find a post-1971 Pakistani who will acknowledge this fact--indeed, they cannot even acknowledge that 1971 War proved the "two-nation theory" untenable, though Banglas--most of whom are NOT pro-Indian at all--readily do so).
