I love the Christmas season!

First of all, I'm Catholic and the point of the season isn't lost on me, though I won't shove it onto others :) Plus, I have kids and I teach kids (18 year olds, but still kids!) so there's no way to avoid all the hooplah anyway.

But seriously, Christmas music, people doing good for others (though I wish it was a year-round thing), the tree and decorations, the happy get-togethers, baking, St. Nicholas Day, stockings, the Nutcracker.....

I never buy gifts for people out of obligation either. Because then it's not a "gift." I make quite a lot of my gifts (sewing and crocheting or baking) but really it's just us and the kids who get gifts. My other friends and family understand and most people do the same, at least, in our circle of friends.

I love the cultural side of Christmas celebrations and the closer contact with family and friends.

The commercial side is only good if you're looking for deals on things you and yours needs or wants... not the 'buy buy buy' blitz that sends the retail sector from red to black... or at least they hope. That's what happens when you live in a service/market-based economy.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I agree with a lot of your sentiment, and also as a fellow Christian there is a bigger point to Christmas to me too(yeah yeah I know he wasn't born on Dec 25th, who cares). I also love Christmas music, food, the gatherings, the wish for good will toward all men, giving gifts(I also am giving a lot of handmade this year). Maybe you and I should start a happy lovers of Christmas romantics group. :P I like being happy!

is said bauty is in the eyes of the beholder. is the same with Christmas. depends what side of it u look at. I personaly love Christmas. but to me the whole year flows between holidays, bdays, name days. is how i live it. once one is over, i start waiting for next one. my husband for example hates Christmas, but is because it got so commercial. isnt the Christmas spirit anymore he says, is the shopping fever. and I believe him. thats why we decided to spend every Christmas here. to me Christmas is the time when whole family gets together, no matter where they live their days the rest of the year. if would be for only that, and would still be great. Christmas eve is making the Christmas tree, which would be my job every year. my mother baking and the whole place being warm and smelling like goodies. everyone has a job assigned by tradition. and everyone is in a good mood. then we wait for kids who come sing Christmas songs, so there r songs whole evening at our door. then we have dinner and share time together. then the spying begins. everyone has to place the gifts under the tree, u have to see who sleeps whos awake, to make it secret. because we still believe in santa and we find gifts n the morning. and the Christmas morning is a bless. the gifts, the first day u can eat all the goodies after the long fasting time (eastern orthodox fasting is tough. cant include anything coming from an animal in yr menu, and it starts in middle of november). then extended family gathers at my grandmother, where is the traditional Christmas lunch. and santa comes there too. as for the gifts, doesnt matter i spend money, the feeling of giving is great. and when u see ppl happy with it, after u spent days picking perfect thing for everyone, thats my reward. Christmas is great, if u live it as what is meant to be.
