Sometimes they just won't give it - you have to keep trying until you are lucky with someone. We didn't bother after the first attempt and waited until it came in the letter through the post.

CJ...if you are unable to acquire the IIN...I would not worry because you will get it in a few days in the mail. If you have overnighted the DS-3032 then by the time you get your IIN in the mail you will be able to pay both the AOS and IV fee bills. So technically...it won't slow the whole process down a great deal. This is what I did and them maile the AOS and DS-230 packages in together and approval came 2-3 days after that.

Still...can't help with the IIN. I wasn't able to get it from the operators...sorry. Just wanted to give you hope if you can't obtain it over the phone.

yeah its all about luck, if you get a nice rep you'll get iin.

Here is my story. I've lived problem free life, payed my taxes. One day I decided to marry this girl. But to do so would require her to come to US of A, and so it started. My problem free live turned in to free problems from USCIS! Sure things turned to unsure, certain dates turned to aproximation within months. All logical thinking was out the door, as I filed my papers withing famous Vermont Centre!

Could you tell me our case's Invoice ID number? "Yes" thank you!! "No" "oh thank you, bye" ("moron!" small voice!)

We were lucky, got it at third time I think.

I've tried four times now...to no avail. Can anyone advise on specific question we should asking the NVC operators to get the IIN?

Yep, the only trick in this is persistence. All you need to ask is "May I please have my invoice identification number?" and know that you will hear every excuse in the book. But if you don't want to wait for the hard copy of the bill, you'll just have to ask it over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again until someone just gives it to you.

Cantwait2long, please be persistent with your lawyer. Our lawyer flat out refused to go through shortcuts as they weren't "official" yet and he gave so many reasons saying how we have to wait for packet 3 from NVC before we can send in our documents.

CJvasani, may be try calling at evening hours, from what have I heard and they give out IIN after 4pm EST

Hi, dont tell them you want it for paying online, tell them you would like it for your records! This worked for me, I tried like 5 times and the late afternoon agents seem to be more willing to give it to you...

Good Luck

I got lucky to get it on the first try too. I think I said something like "could I get the Invoice ID Number so I can pay the online bill?" The operator just started reading it to me.

My AOS fee bill was generated on Friday and the hard copy came in the mail on Monday so it isn't much of a wait. We have to wait for them to accept the DS-3032 anyway before we can proceed with the IV package so in the end waiting for the IIN to pay the AOS bill won't slow you down.

Good luck!

Thanks all. I just had my fifth call to them and still no go, so I guess I'll give another whirl tonight and then call it a day on this acquiring IIN project. It seems like it has little impact on the overall completion at NVC. May be we should mention this in our shortcut WIKI pages.

Figuring out how to get an IIN is like figuring out the weather.

We can forecast it, but you never really know until it happens, or doesn't happen.

Some got lucky calling early, others late. Some at the start of the week, others at the end of the week.

Some people get it on their first attempt, some after 30 attempts (that's me), and some never get it.

As others have stated, it's not the end of the world if you don't get it from an operator....but it does save a lot of time over

waiting on the mail. Just keep trying. Like I said, it took me 30 attempts.

If you ever wondered, YES they do log each time you call....but so what. They're working for your tax dollars,

not to mention the fees you've already paid. You deserve service.

Keep trying, good luck.

Well said Ling Ling.

So you were calling NVC a few times every day. Man you got lot's of time and guts. I get frustrated calling USCIS or NVC. In this world on internet we use email, text message for personal and work purpose why NVC does not accept email. Just a thought for NEXT SYSTEM UPDATE for NVC. Hope NVC DOES IT IN 2009.
