Actually, you would.

Imagine having to take care of your 90-year-old parents when you're 70.

Hey I will be 74 when my parent is 90

She has already requested that I put her in a nice nursing home when she needs it and spare no expense. I'm her only hope when it comes to a nice old age. She can't count on my sister :P

70 is NUTS, and selfish, and creepy

but 45??? I don't think there's anything wrong with that.......I had my daughter at 40, so probably a bit biased.

I guess in your 20's you imagine 40 as ancient...lol :P

I don't think 40 is ancient at all but if I was 20 I wouldn't want my parents to be in their 60s or even 70!

What does it matter how old your parents are when you're 20? It's not like they're going to have to chase after you through a park or something.

It does matter. Generation gaps. Older parents don't understand their children because they have no clue.

But at 20 you are no longer a child.

They don't have to "understand" them to be good parents.

Why not? It would reflect badly on you?

My dad had my half-sister at 37....it's never bothered her.

My Dad is in EXTREMELY good shape, bikes, runs, travels like a maniac....lot more energetic than most pepole half his age.

It would have been better for my half-sister to never exist than to have a Dad who was in his 60's when she was in her 20's?

Odd.

Also Halle Berry was 39 or 40 when she had hers. Oprah saved her eggs and she is over 50. Could she be planning to have kids some day.

Odd.

Not EVERYONE turns into a close-minded coot who yells "Damned kids today" ya' know.

I have a 15 year old who drives me nuts with his grindcore music and such, but I can understand it's his taste and I try to understand and don't give him a hard time when he listens to it, or tells me the 10,000th mosh pit story..lol

open-mindedness has no "age".

I have a question..........since to some bringing a child to life in such circumstances is selfish. Should the Sudanese in Dafur be viewed as selfish to continue to give birth to children whose life expectancy is minimal on the average? Should these Dafur parents consider that these children will soon be dying of malnutrition, disease, hunger, poverty etc?

I don't think the women there have a real choice in the matter since rape is rampant.

Are you saying that all those hundreds of thousands of children are rape children? The Dafur people are families as well. Full family units.

Nope, just saying that it isn't as cut and dry as you are trying to make it sound.

Do women there have full and unhindered access to a wide range of contreceptives and the education to use them? Are their husbands supportive of this?

Is abortion easily accessible there? What about other forms of OB/GYN care?

What rights do women have and what is their level of education in general?

I think it is selfish and cruel to bring a child into such a world IF you can prevent it. The if is, well, iffy here.

So you purposing having children in your early twenties, that is young in my opinion. I didn't have my daughter until I was 26 and I think that was very young. I would prefer to have her when I was older and more clam and mature. I don't hardly remember my twenties, but I know I was still young and stupid. Children are precious, period, but personally I think parents in their early twenties are not as well equipped as parents in their thirties or forties.

I never said they'd be bad parents, but it's still unfair to your child if you're so old you can't understand them. In my experience (I know a few people like this) people with parents too old to know ####### is going on tend to leave their parents out of their life and aren't as close to them. They can't talk to them because they don't know ####### is going on.

I think this also brings up the question, how is it ethical to refuse abortions to women in these countries if the children are going to be born into such a life? I think most pro-lifers tend to only consider perfect situations where the child will have many options for a happy life and not situations like these.

I particulary think 70 is too old to be a mother though... a guy is a different story (dont get to me why but their body is different)

60 is pushing it too

when you think of it, our body actually tells you when is the good time to have babies..(no religious connection here) so eventhough I'm all for science but I think in this case it is pushing it too far.

Exactly.

Anyway, when I read "Another 70-year-old in India has IVF baby" my first reaction was,

"Great. Because India really needs another baby."

There's 20 years in between 20 and 40

I'm probably the wrong person to argue with about having kids since I don't really want any
