Ugh! That's just ridiculous! I don't feel sorry for hime at all and that might mean I'm a mean person, but c'mon. We all did it the right, legal, and in most cases, VERY expensive way. It just irritates me that he brought this on himself and is trying to claim ignorance now. If he'd never been caught, he would keep on doing what he was doing and not even worry about whether he was in status or not!

And give me a break..."I'm terrified to leave this country."?! Are people really that ignorant about Canada? It's not like we're a third world country with genocide and food shortages etc...etc....

/rant!

Of course there'll be a food shortage! She'll have to feed her family food. Made with REAL sugar! And not HFCS! Which we all know is healthier, because it's made from corn. Respect this woman's right to feed her children wholesome processed goods!

March 13, 2009--Visa application handed to the post office.

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

March 30, 2009--NOA1

August 12, 2009--Touched

September 1, 2009, received Package 1 from Montreal--but where is our NOA2???

Ditto, ditto, ditto. Call me Scrooge but I absolutely agree - if he had never been caught it would not be issue. Maybe if we all get our spouses to approach the local papers in their towns /cities we can have articles written about each of us - the pain and emotional toll it takes waiting for almost a year to be together :crying::crying: and our "Christmas miracle" will come true.

Can you tell I'm having one of those "I can't stand this immigration process anymore" days ???:wacko:

It is people like this 'technical professional' who cause more and more grief on the already strained immigration process.

To pass the blame on the country or to act like Canada is some kind of concentration camp sickens me.

I truly do feel bad for his wife and kids but come on he knew it was a 1 year visa.

This coming from an overstay in the midst of AOS. My family suffers everyday right now as I cannot legally work.

Oooo that makes me mad! He's upset because he was GRANTED a 1 year work visa, and then ABUSED it? Come on now...rediculous. It irritates me when you go about the immigration system legally, wait your time, and then some smuck like this wants sympathy for doing it illegally and facing the consequences. Grrrr.

Now breathe.... *sigh*

I get that he entered legally. I get that he married a citizen and qualified for a greencard, had he applied. I get that he was given bad advice. So what don't I get? He entered on a 1 year visa in 2000, which obviously would have expired in 2001. According to the article, he didn't marry until 2005. What on earth did he think was giving him the right to stay in those 4 years between the expiry of his visa and the marriage to his wife?!

I sent a link to this thread to the guy who wrote the story - it has to be one of the worst immigration related stories written. It is so full of holes with no follow up.

For example:

He was told he’d have to wait three years after marriage to apply for his green card, but he recently learned he could have applied the day after he married, and his ordeal would have been over.

Ok, so he has overstayed by 7 years. He knows he needs a green card to work. So how is mentioning this even relevant. If we assume he really understood it this way, could we also not assume he would have worked for a year, then sat and waited for 2 years to apply for his green card?

Anyway, it doesn't make me angry, he knew exactly what he was doing, he got caught.

I signed up and left a comment,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Love your comments Flames :)

Yeah, I am another who has no compassion. Sometimes I read these stories and think, gee that was a genuine mistake and I can understand how that was made. Not so in this case. He brought this on himself.

I feel sympathy to the extent it has to suck to be separated. But I'm not sure why they didn't file for AOS, because this would have been a very easy fix since they were married. In any case, I'm surprised at the comments to the article saying "but he's not an illegal", as if it's a requirement one speaks Spanish or something.

And she doesn't waive her own rights to support. (Aside from the fact she hasn't signed for anything.) She can list him, and they *should* just ignore him as part of the household calculation.
