I have no sympathy!! Sure their situation is sad, but playing dumb doesn't make things right!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I don't feel bad for him either. He didn't follow the rules, and I think its hilarious they try to play it off like he was "looking for a better life" as if he were leaving a third world country.

GAH!! I want to write the reporter and tell him that I spent the $$ and did it right and had the guy NOT consulted a lawyer and say come to THIS site, he very quickly would have realized what the flip is up!! They will probably start some sort of "Christmas Miracle" fund in this city now.. makes me ill..

I don't wish bad things on this guy but honestly he's making this into a SUPER drama, when it's a lack of information and being ill prepared that put himself and his family in this situation not FLIPPING George Bush and the Dept. of Homeland Security!!

Write to the editor! Lets all write to him! Its unfair and a kick in the a$$ when these idiots play off the sob story. You know what? A lot of people need a Christmas miracle on this site too! To have their cases finished with so they can be with their loved ones, or get their AOS finished with so they too can work legally!

True say, at any point and time he could have at least attempted to adjust his status. That was a risk he took, he should have known how bad the consequences could have been. At this point, hes mostly just sorry he got caught. If he had been able to get that other job, he would have kept on working and living here illegally, no questions asked.

Pretty hard to work up much sympathy for this plonker. Call me Scrooge, but I don't buy he didn't know better either.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Cause, you know, it's IMPOSSIBLE to adjust your status when you get married. *rolls eyes*

What I suspect he was told was that you have to be married for a certain amount of time in order to get the green card without restrictions or whatever. To get the 10 year green card. And he didn't listen properly.

March 13, 2009--Visa application handed to the post office.

March 16, 2009--Visa application received by Vermont Service Centre at 11:01 am. Let's hope that he actually put in everything he thought he did and they don't send it back to us!!

March 23, 2009--Got the whole package back. The cheque was apparently filled out incorrectly, thanks to the fact that his moronic flatmates helped him and instructed him wrong for the first cheque he ever filled out.

March 30, 2009--NOA1

August 12, 2009--Touched

September 1, 2009, received Package 1 from Montreal--but where is our NOA2???

or he was told it would take 3 years to qualify to become a CITIZEN.. which in fact would be correct information

Ugh! That's just ridiculous! I don't feel sorry for hime at all and that might mean I'm a mean person, but c'mon. We all did it the right, legal, and in most cases, VERY expensive way. It just irritates me that he brought this on himself and is trying to claim ignorance now. If he'd never been caught, he would keep on doing what he was doing and not even worry about whether he was in status or not!

And give me a break..."I'm terrified to leave this country."?! Are people really that ignorant about Canada? It's not like we're a third world country with genocide and food shortages etc...etc....
