Thanks to Haole for always answering my post.... :)

Im so confused... I hear so many different stories, I don't know the right way to turn.

Im trying to get my boyfriend to US with me, my father has become very ill, and my mother needs my help, but of course I dont want to leave my bf.

I have been residing here in Egypt for almost 2 years now... and the reason that my bf and I havent gotten married is : I made a decision to live here in Egypt and spend time with him, before I took the marriage step, to make sure we were going to make it together, many differences as u know from the religion, culture, etc...

He and I are great together, and I have no problem staying here with him... but now a situation has arose , and I need to leave but don't want to leave without him.

I have read that if I marry here in Egypt , that after I get married, I can call the embassy here and set an appointment date. just fill out the I -130 and take all the required docs with me.

I guess my question is : Is this a faster process than the K-1

I would hate to get married, and then file this DCF and come to find out its going to take over a year or so for him to come to US.

or do u think I have a better chance of getting him to US faster on the K-1?

I need some insight from anyone that can help.

and thanks so much for ur time and for reading my post (L)

each consulate is different, but DCF is typically the fastest route over any petition (spousal or fiance(e)) filed at one of the service centers in the US.

Egypt has been known to be a bit difficult country for a foreigner to get married....

YMMV

Indeed, DCF is usually the fastest way. Yet, you do have to:

1. Be married

2. Reside in the consular district legally for "X" amount of time

Contact your consulate to find out exact details. And also find out which requirements you have to fulfill to get married as a foreigner.

You should do everything you can to get married in Egypt and file the I-130 there before going home. Look into how long and how hard it would be to get married there - that should be the main deciding factor.

Getting a CR1 visa through DCF is faster and has so many advantages over getting a non-immigrant K1 visa. The main advantage is that once he had his CR1 visa, he would be a permanent resident upon arrival in the US with nothing to pay for for another two years and freedom to come and go and work. With the K1 visa, he would not be a permanent resident until you had paid for and gone through the process of adjustment of status. He also couldn't work until he had EAD, which takes about 90 days after filing the form with all the adjustment of status forms. He couldn't even leave and return without special permission called Advanced Parole.

This is all assuming that you have been properly resident in Egypt, not just living there on tourist visas. I don't know how it works there, but I would guess that you have a proper residence since you've been there for so long. :)

It sounds to me like you'd be able to do DCF, if you are able to get married in Egypt. And it would no doubt be the fastest option. My best friend flew to Egypt, met her husband to be for the first time, and got married 2 days later with no issues, but I'm not sure it works that way for everyone. Check out the MENA forum and ask about the marriage issue there. There are plenty of women married to Egyptians there who could tell you step by step how to get the marriage done.
