I just joined the forum today but have been a "lurker" for a while now.

I am a native Californian who moved to Germany this past summer (July 2008) to be with my German husband and experience the german lifestyle. I truly love Germany but our plans are to move back to California (or a surrounding area) within the next couple of years.

My husband was previously married and has two children from that marriage who want to move with us. That in itself is going to be the hardest part of our move because we will need to secure a lawyer to work out the "kinks" with their mother.

Anyways, just wanted to say HI and welcome myself to the forums.

We hope to start our process for the I-130 Petition THIS year, so, here's to hoping I can find a job and help pay! ha!

"Our Wedding Prayer"

Lord, help us to remember when we first met,and the strong love that grew between us.

To work the love into practical things so nothing can divide us

Grant us a Love that grows stronger with each passing year.

We ask for words both kind and loving

and for hearts always ready to ask forgiveness as well as to forgive.

Guide us to overcome every challenge

and keep our dreams pure to each other always.

Dear Lord,we put our marriage into Your hands.Amen

If your heart acquires strength, you will be able to remove blemishes from others without thinking evil of them.

Pfft. :hehe:

I remember when I was doing my study abroad in Oldenburg and the other Americans in my course thought it was a waste of time to be in Germany if they didn't go to Munich. Did they ever whine.

I didn't go with them. The weekend they went to Munich, I went farther north with my husband to Wacken Open Air. Forget Paulaner, get me a Jever.

I've been to Bayern, but never to Munich. It was alright, the towns I visited in Oberbayern. I do prefer though the Schwarzwald and the North Sea coast (where my husband is from). It took a lot of getting used to, but eventually, I even came to appreciate the eastern Ruhrgebiet/Sauerland. I was not fond of living there at first.

:wow:

I love Bavaria! It's beautiful here!

Granted, I havent been up north, but I still do love it here.

And, I have been to Munich. Nice place. But I'm more of a country gal. ;)

Heh, need to get up there. Your husband may disagree. I may be in B-W over Christmas, if you want to meet up or so.

I remember my first contact with people from Bayern. My husband pointed to a loud camp of them across the way from us and said "They are drunk and yelling something. Unfortunately, they are from Bayern and we can hardly understand a word they are screaming."

B-W = Baden-Württemberg, Correct?

That is still quite a little ways from where I am located. Maybe a couple hours.

We don't have any plans on travelling for the holidays because my husband works a lot.

So, unless you were in the Bamberg-area, I would say that a meeting isn't feasible for us at this time. Sorry. :(

And, my husband would completely agree with you about the language! He cannot understand a whole lot from Germans in the east or northeast. haha.

Welcome and good luck!

I love Germany too :-)

My husband is from near Ulm, and my best friend is from Nuernberg. I quite like the countryside too, so I hear you. The farthest north I've been (aside from driving to the Netherlands) is Berlin...which I guess isn't really "north."

Here's wishing you a speedy journey!

Eh well, depends on if we get my MIL's car or not. It is not that far out of the way to where we would be going (basically to the Boden See from around Bremen). We'll see what happens.

Yeah, Germans from Sachen, etc, they have an accent that is like nails on a chalkboard for my husband. I think it is funny to hear. Occasionally, there will even be a translation for particularly heavy dialect. My husband speaks fairly standard hochdeutsch with slight regional variation. Where he comes from, there are still native speakers of plattdeutsch. One day, I was at my husband's friend's house and they left me alone for a few minutes with the father who after a few sentences of hochdeutsch, switched to platt, and I couldn't understand what he was saying. Then he started laughing. Ha Ha. :P
