Wow, Rosalinda...I am so sorry to see you are still waiting...hopefully not too much longer. Glad to see you are going there to spend time with him though..should be great. Have you contacted teh DoS in Washington to check the status of the AP? I am curious as to what they are telling you.

OMG...I take so much stuff when I go to Jordan. Last time we were over by 8 or 9 pounds on each bag...ouch on the charges...but all my aunts wanted something.

Good ideas, include: shoes...if you know their sizes. My sister knows all my aunts sizes and we caught a nice sale at JCPenny...$60 shoes marked down to $10 or so! Got 9 pair...yep I have lots of aunts. Also, since it is winter there....I am not sure what they are called...but there are sweaters/coats...that you just basically pull over your head...no zipper and i;ts open from the bottom...I have no idea...but kinda like a pancho..but heavier and longer.

For the men, dress shirts or polos are good. You can catch these on sale here marked down a lot....maybe this time of year you can find the long sleve polos at a bargain!

The lotion suggestion was a definitely a great idea...Lubriderm...Oil of Olay is huge there in Jordan...very expensive and the older ones like it. Nutrogena..sunscreen is good idea.

If you wanted to take something for the kids..I suggest...Twizzlers and candy canes...the candy canes should be very cheap after Christmas.

How about quality soaps (italian or french triple milled) and shampoos?

My ex-husband had 18 brothers and sisters...so imagine when we had to buy gifts for them and their spouses/kids LOL!

A pretty fancy box of soaps like that can be found for $5-10 each at places like Ross or Marshalls.

My husband now only has 6 to shop for. He takes things that they use everyday like irons, utensils, etc. He also takes olive oil soaps, shampoo, and handbags/wallets. He says we have (in the EU) better quality stuff.

If you're not on a budget (and don't have to worry about baggage weight), what about things like food processors? or other cooking appliances to make their chores easier?

I love all your ideas... the lotions and bath sets seem to be in the running... I may just get a couple of the makeup sets and let my husband ask me what i was thinking later :D Maybe they don't use it cuz no one has considered giving it to them

how about a nice scarf they can wear on their heads like they do

i bought one for my MIL one time when I went and she wears it like crazy

also, candy, like chocolates from here are a big hit

things to do nails, like nail files, clippers

lil conveniences for us that are so cheap but for them too expensive to indulge

I forgot all about the nail stuff, but yes, I always have a couple of those big wide manicure-y type nail files in my purse and as soon as the family saw them they were lined up to use them - turns out the only nail file in the house was one of those scary metal ones attached to the nail clippers. so now I always send a good handful of those :)

Everyone had a lot of great ideas. I'll just reiterate that I think kitchen items are great. A knife or knife set, a good vegetable peeler, and other small tools that make our lives easier.

My husband's family all loved when I brought chocolates, cookies, shampoos, nice soaps, toothpaste, floss, toothbrushes, makeup, perfumes and body sprays, scarves, jeans, scented lotions, pedi egg, photo albums, cd holder albums, burned cd's of music...

oh and gum/candy!! they loooove american style gum.i bought packs at costco and they gave them out to friends and family there.
