small word ... im from toronto but in greenwood due to my ex husband being posted/stationed here and just havent moved out of greenwood

Greenwood is ok, I like small, lol Dc is crazy, far too much traffic. I rented my U-haul from the gas station right by the small drive thru tim hortons in Kingston (on the main road) he was a good guy to deal with. I got my Police Cerificate from the RCMP detachment there, took 2 or 3 days, was free. They wanted proof that i required it, so I printed off a page from the USCIS web site, they were happy.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

MP shack won't do anything for ya!! Just print something off the USCIS wer page, or whatever paperwork u have, who knows they might not even ask ya for it. Teh RCMP officer I dealt with at first was sort of a jerk, lol sort of rude, told me it would take a few weeks! When he left, the secretary came by and told me not to worry, come back in 2 days!!

The U haul guy was nice. He couldn't guarantee me a truck until like a week prior, but he ensure me he would drive to Halifax himself to get one, if he didn't have one!! Truck was in fine mechanical condition, but a bit dirty inside----but then again i'm a neat freak, so yes i cleaned it,lol As well ensure u check the fluid levels and tire pressure.

I actually drove from green wood to Newport RI on my first part of the leg--dropped ####### off in my inlaws basement, then made the trip to DC. I made it to RI in 1 day. I don think I left Greenwood till nearly noon, was back in Dec 2004, so cant recall. I belive I crossed into the USA at the Calais, ME. very simple, didnt even inspect my Uhaul and was no wait time at all--since I arrived around 7 pm !! Only thing u need for ur personal goods is an inventory sheet. Nothing fancy, I just made mine on a Microsoft Word document in "table" format. Best of luck
