I just wanted to bump up this thread. With the ability to actually start thinking about moving plans now I've been starting to get nervous about moving my cat. :( I definitely need to consider Feliway for her. lol

I also have a hamster that I want to move too  I know right? #######? But it's true. I dunno what else to do with him! :(

Anyway... just figured I'd post some other links I found (besides what's already been posted here), as I'm sure I'm not the only one that has this on their mind.

(oh, and this one looks good too: http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/animal/faq.htm )

and there's also a thread from the UK forum.. still probably has relevant info it in.

For the love of God don't let Charles, Wyatt or DPX read this. I've driven with two cats 2200 miles. They were in the back of a cube van with mom and me.

yeah.... i've had lots of "suggestions" on what to do with him... LOL A friend of a friend very kindly said he could 'take care' of him for me... as in, feed his pet snake :( haha

Anyway, I found some more good info for flying with pets (which is what I'm going to do)

http://www.airlines.org/customerservice/pa...or+Your+Pet.htm

This one lists which airlines allow pets and where (i.e. if they're allowed in the cabin or not).

know where we can get feliway? Pet Valu doesn't carry it. Does Petsmart? I haven't been able to find it.

I haven't shopped for it yet, but according to the Petsmart website they do.

http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2755196

But not sure if that's in the US only. You can buy online from Petsmart, but that item doesn't ship to Canada.

I also found Feliway Spray on amazon.com, but the shipping charges to Canada are atrocious.

We bought ours at petsmart in Lethbridge, which is a pretty small place, so they probably stock it in most stores.

I heard good things and bad things about feliway but the vet told us that it is best to get the cat used to the method of travel first. It seems that feliway works best that way since it won't work miracles.

Yes, it was a miracle worker for us, all the way to Florida and back - however, it does say in the instructions that not all cats will respond the same way - who knows, maybe it makes some more aggressive.

We had no choice but to try it, a couple of sprays in the vehicle and fluffy went from a howling very distressed cat to being her normal self, sleeping for hours quietly.

I would definately try it with a short trip around the neighbourhood first, or an hours drive say.

I heard that from quite a few people. Get the cat used to the travel container slowly and kitty won't freak out when the big trip comes. It also makes it easier to take kitty to the vet. Some cats get aclimatized very quickly and others take a while. People are like that too.

We moved with a load of pets too, the bird was the only one I had to make sure a vet was at the border to check her over. They didn't even look at the dog, cats, or hamster. I don't think the hamster noticed anything. We had his cage on the floor of the truck between the 2 kids feet and had 2 cat carriers between the 2 kids on the seat. We had the dog and bird in another car, no way we would of gotten 4 kids, 2 cats, a lab, and the bird all in the back seat of the truck. I couldn't find the feliway for the cats but did find an all natural drop to give them before the trip. We had to keep giving it to one of the cats when it wore off or he would go nuts.

If you can't find the feliway at petsmart, I am pretty certain that is it something that the vet can order for you. It will probably be a bit more $$ than buying it a a pet store, but may be cheaper than ordering on-line and paying for shipping. Call your vet and ask, they should be able to give you a price for it.
