My fiance arrived in the States a few days ago and we are getting married December 20. I know he needs to apply for a social security card, but I am lost after the marriage takes place. What form(s) does my fiance need to fill out? I know there is a work permit and then one to remove conditions to start toward becoming a resident.

Can someone please help me out? I am so confused and lost. Is it forms I-765 and form I-485 right after the marriage takes place that we fill out? Any help that anyone who has done this process can give me will be greatly appreciated please!!!! Thanx!

Well here's the deal. Once here, and married - the major process will be to Adjust Status (AOS). Adjusting status from 'out of status' which she will be once her I-94 expires to that of a permanent resident (green card holder). When you file for AOS, the fee you pay includes filing for EAD (work permit/Employment Authorization Document) and (if desired) AP (Advance Parole) which is for re-entry to the US should she want to travel outside the US before she gets her green card. (Lifting conditions comes leter - about 2 years later.)

Note: Apply for SSN later than 2 weeks after entry, but no more than 76 days, after that and then EAD or Green-Card will be needed to get SSN.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.
