My fiance's interview is on Monday, and we were going over checklists and stuff. Then we were at US embassy in Japan website, and we found a page that said on form DS-156 you should not leave anything blank and to write none or n/a. She did this form a while ago and we went over it, and it has some blanks (such as buisness phone number, fax, ect.) for things that dont apply to her.

I know the ds-156 is the form that gives a barcode that we did online, but can we still redo it now? even though her interview is on monday?

I called a lawyer, and she said it should be ok to leave blanks, but the embassy homepage said its not ok.

Please help me.

thank you so much for any help

Take a pen and write "N/A" in the blanks the are "not applicable" like business phone numbers etc.

Will it be ok? because I know she got like a barcode on it, will that mess up anything like if they have info from the barcode already or something??

I don't know Japan's procedure. Didn't you already mail in DS156? You can do a new one and print it. Take it with you and if anything is said about it, then hand over the new one. There's no limit to how many times you can do the online form and print it.

Things like blank business phone numbers are really a non-issue.

Just have her do a new one. The info she types only goes into the barcode. NOT to the embassy or anywhere.

I've filled in a different DS-156 four times (for a visitor visa) and each and every time it had a few blank fields. I've not once heard a complaint or warning to type in something (n/a, or other) instead. The blanks were some phone number fields and other things that didn't really seem relevant.

Hi. I went to the interview last Monday.

I think you should leave them as they are and ask someone at the interveiw. She will be given a file and needs to put the papers in order. Then before the actual interview, one of the ladies at the window will check her papers and she can ask her what to do with DS-156.

I (actually my lawyer) made a mistake on DS-156, but I explained it and it was fine.

Don't forget to fill out DS-157! I read the embassy website and to me, it looked like I don't need that one, but I needed it. I was lucky that I brought it anyways.

Every single person at the US embassy Tokyo was nice.

Tell her to relax. Everything goes easier and faster.

I wish you the best!!!

If you have time, you can simply redo the DS-156 on line, the barcode on page 3 contains all data entered into the form.

NOTE: The website does not store any data, it simply uses the information entered to generate the barcode.
