When I changed my last name to his, I never applied for a new passport. Now, he wants us to go to Canada for Christmas but I'm not sure if they'll accept my passport? (Especially since I think his mom bought tickets for my married last-name...)

All I can tell you is that when I return to the UK, I have to book my flight in my maiden name as the airlines insist that "the name on the ticket MUST match the name on the passport". I would advise calling the airline to explain the situation.

Oh dear, thanks for the heads up!

Wonder if they'll take an expired driver's license as prior "proof" of my maiden name?

I'm going to call on Monday, definitely.

You might be able to get a refund on the ticket if you agree to purchase a new one in your married name? I'm obviously not sure of the rules for all airlines, but I have had an airline agree to credit 75% of a non changeable/non refundable ticket to a new ticket when I couldn't make a booked flight. Its not the whole cost but its better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick :)

Your passport can stay in your maiden name, but you have to buy all your plane tickets in your maiden name too.

They go by what name is on the passport.

I spelled my name wrong once and they weren't able to change it and I had to risk just going through with my ticket misspelled and I was okay. I think they are strict about name changes on tickets. You may need to get a new one hopefully is not a non-refundbale one or you get a forgiving airlines. Or, you could ask if you could just carry a copy of your marriage license with you and your other married name ID and present that with your passport.

Actually, I've always bought the tickets in my married name. All I do is bring my marriage certificate and show them my green card.

I've been wanting to get my passport in my married name for awhile but they make it too much of a hassle, in my opinion.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

This was a domestic flight, but I just took my green card (with married name) and my passport (with maiden name) along with my marriage certificate and they were ok about it. My father-in-law purchased our tickets and ended up misspelling my name, and the airline and TSA didn't blink at the discrepancy either.
