STUCK @ NVC for AP

hmm...I am a beneficiary .and I have to get a police record for my interview in Kiev. as for me, it's strange if NVC checks a beneficiary's security clearance.. then why do I have to prepare my police record on an interview if they check my name in DC, in the USA??? :bonk: How I know if NVC sends a case to AP they see a "red flag" on the petitioner's name.. that's why they have to check it out.. and my Embassy checks my background here, in Ukraine.

I can see how it makes sense to do both a local police clearance in country (e.g. Ukraine) as well as checks in the US (e.g. FBI, Interpol). The former will verify that you don't have any criminal record at home on domestic charges. The latter will vett that you aren't on any radar screen for international terror, drugs, etc. I'm ok with the system demanding that level of scrutiny since ultimately it does make us all safer. I'm even ok with different stages of the process (USCIS, NVC, etc.) apparently repeating checks and doing them at random - if it helps to weed out bad guys, that's fine by me. What I'm not ok with is the lack of openness and communication. Would it be so hard for them to TELL US what they're checking and how long it will take? What's with the big aura of mystery to this thing? That serves no useful purpose for national security or the integrity of the immigration process. All it does is frustrate and worry petitioners who are doing their best to play by the rules.

I have nothing against it too and I am ok with their processing.. I know they had started doing it after Sep 11 in NY. But how our lawyer said if USCIS approved us we don't have to be in AP.. Because we gathered all info about it what we had in the past.. We did it because we wanted to make our process shorter and faster ASAP, but the luck was on oppisite side :(

And they will never TELL US "how long?" " what?" "why?" "where?' :(

I see in your post 2 assumptions that are unfortunately quite common: (1) Expecting that hiring a lawyer will expedite your case (2) trusting anything a lawyer tells you, especially regarding how they'll help you speed up your case. You're quite right about one thing: "luck was on the opposite side". NVC AP really is just a matter of luck - random chance. Hiring a lawyer hasn't helped you, or hurt you in this regard.

I just made my nightly call to NVC. Still stuck. Day 47. This time she asked for something new --- my fiancee's email address.

The usual dialog goes like this:

Case Number Please? Me: "BNK........."

Name and DOB of Beneficiary? Me: "......"

Name and DOB of petitioner? Me "....."

Is your phone number still ...... ? Me: "Yes."

What was new tonight was "We have your email address on file, but not your fiancee's. Would you like to add that to the file?"

Me: "Um... sure, ok. Here it is......"

After which, the usual patter of "How can I help you today?"

Me: "I'd just like to get status on my case please".

Them "Well, I see you are still undergoing additional processing. Unfortunately there is no timeline for this processing. When it is completed your case will be forwarded to the embassy in Bangkok"

Me (under my breath): "!@#!%!" (out loud) "Thank you very much"

Just curious - have any of you had that variation before (asking for email address)?

You are too funny about your under the breath comment...I did exactly the same thing every day (until yesterday)!

I had the e-mail question once, as well...probably the same woman. I think mine was maybe at day 44 or 45...I don't know why they asked that. They won't even send an e-mail to me, much less to her. But I suspect that now that they have that on record, it is just another potential question at the interview.

Firstly, congratulations on your NOA2 .... that is still a great achievement and an important milestone to your being reunited.

Secondly, AP at NVC is very frustrating, I won't sugar coat it. But it won't be anywhere near as long as 230 days. You should figure on about 50 days, and they will go by, just as your NOA2 wait finally came to an end.

well, we hired a lawyer for some reasons, first main reason was time. My fiance doesn't have time for it. He works too hard and very busy all day long.. in order to avoid mistakes and time in filling we decided to hire a lawyer. He explained us that the whole process of K1 takes 7-9 months.. and it's fine.. we knew it. Any lawyer or even congressman or senator don't help in speeding this process ;) It's clear like sunny day :) Our lawyer was surprised to hear about AP at NVC. He sent them an email with explanations.

About dailogue, it's really nonsense to ask email  Maybe they have nothing to talk about?!?! They feel lonely looking at phones... funny.. when we call to NVC, it's just short conversation, but you wait to talk to alive operator eternity, sometimes not :) Again, here luck plays a role :)

Sorry to hear you are in AP but you are in good company here! It sucks to wait, but the wait appears to be somewhat more defined than the USCIS process.

On an unrelated note, my month-old muscle strain turned into some sort of a calf muscle rupture yesterday, it seems. I'll be seeing a doctor later today and then dealing with at least 10 days of therapy (likely laser or ultrasound). Whee!

Just curious - have any of you had that variation before (asking for email address)?

Yes, almost every time. They'd ask me to verify my fiance's phone number, rarely ever mine and almost always his email address. I think only once one of the employees asked about my own. At least one couldn't tell whether I was male or female, even though I kept correcting them and telling them I was the beneficiary, fiancee and, therefore, a woman. I had that 'luck' to talk to a few of them who weren't American so, sadly enough for a service like this, they couldn't really speak English (or understand it, for that matter).

Interesting. Apparently they have a different script to follow based upon whether it's the USC petitioner or the foreign beneficiary that is making the call. Just out of curiosity - why is it you that was calling (from overseas) instead of your fiance in the US? I would think just for reasons of phone charges and time zones it's more convenient for the US based person to call.

I did once have them challenge me for 'what's the phone number?'. Other than that one time, they always read back my number to me and ask me to confirm that it's still correct. Very strange process. Can't wait to be done with it. Also, I've never had language issues with any of them, they've always been courteous and spoken fluent English.

2/17 is the date on the letter from the NVC so it is neither the arrive or left date. Since there is NO WHERE in the timeline to enter the date of the NVC letter I used it as the Left NVC date. In actuality it is neither. It is just the date on the NVC letter. Surely they did not send the letter the exact day they received it! No way is the government that efficient! The next time I talk to the NVC I will get the exact date they received it.

GShilobod: I see you've now updated your timeline to show NVC Received on 02-13. Thanks for the update! Next time I run the stats (perhaps this weekend) you should show up on the list. Based on ~50 days, you can expect to get out of NVC around the first week of April. Hang in there!

Badgerella: Sorry to hear about your leg - hope it heals quickly. Maybe best to get it treated there before traveling to US where you'll need to deal with medical insurance here. Since it is a pre-existing condition you'll likely get a lot of grief processing claims here (I'm assuming you'll be joining your fiance's health plan, right?)

and now you can hang with these fine folks!

I still poke my head in every once in a while ;)

"you fondle my trigger then you blame my gun"

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

you guys, i heard another script and yes email is being included on their call flow, second is they said you might want to call by next week to see if this administrative process is completed. so i guess they have an idea that i am on my 50th day already. by any chance, do u guys suggest to call before they close if u call when they open? do you guys think it will change on the system by the end of the day? i always call like 2 hours from the time they opened.
