There is not much movement on this thread. How many folks are in AP? has anyone had a short experience? What has been the trend lately?

You can find the current stats here http://apnvc.info/

It updates automatically from timeline data in the same way as Igor's list does.

So, I called the State Department this morning. At least they aren't drones. The lady was very nice and told me what AP might mean. She apologised for them not having more info. She said, what I already knew though. AP is generally for additional checking on the petitioner or beneficiary. She said that sometimes, USCIS is not as thorough as they should be, so the NVC picks up their slack...OR, like a previous poster said, sometimes the embassy asks the NVC to hold them because they have a lot to process as it is. She said that there didn't look like anything unusual on my case to raise any flags, so probably it is the embassy excuse. Who knows?

She DID tell me each time I called the NVC and said I should call the State Dept instead as they don't track how many times I call and the NVC does. I am not sure why that would matter though.

What number did you call?

202-663-1225. Then you have to listen to a few LONG messages before you can talk to a human, but to me...it seemed like a teeny, weenie bit of piece of mind somehow. So, it was worth it to me.

THanks... I already found the number and called. The guy told me that it was there and they were looking into something. There is no way to see what it is. He said if something caught one persons eye they would hold it to check it out. There's no way to know exactly. He said my embassy is slow so he doubts that they asked for it to be held. They could be double checking something or just checking one thing. It could be me or my SO... the only thing to do is wait.

I do have a concern though. What if the NOA2 expires before I get out of AP?

My understanding is that the NOA2 has a 6 month life. I'm sure it wont be 6 months in AP. i think we are going to have a small delay but it will be ok later.

I don't have the NOA2 here at work to look at the expiry date...but it does worry me.

I asked the same question in this thread I think. I was told if it expires due to a hold up with NVC or embassy they will automatically extend it. My NOA2 is good for 4 months, it expires 10-5-09.

Okay, so I just got off the phone with a man at DOS. I specifically asked him this question and told him mine will expire 10-5-09. He said we are now past that. That expiration date was with USCIS and case is with NVC now and has been assigned a new case number with them. He was basically saying that expiration date is non existent since now assigned with NVC. Who knows.. lol.

My fiancee picked up her packet at the embassy this morning, have yet to talk to her about whats inside but very excited to have made it this far. i think after she takes back whatever forms are inside, she will have her medical appointment, maybe get another packet and then its the interview. i'm sighing with relief. i know we are not out of the woods yet but it sure feels good things are moving along.

advice to any- call the embassy and see if your other half can go pick up the packets- it cuts down on wait time for the mail. which can be a day or more. we plan to do the forms and return them tomorrow or the next day at the latest. if we had waited for the mail, she might not even get it til the end of the week. each embassy is different so they might say yes or might give you a hard time, in which case you can always explain that you have problems getting the mail there. hope it helps

to all on VJ- i hope and pray those of you waiting for NOA's or whatever, that you get it soon. i know what it feels like to not know and be waiting and all you want it to be with the one you love. hang in there and dont just wait- investigate, bug people and do whatever you can to keep the process moving-Good Luck!

Im pretty interested in this DOS response that the embassy would ask them to hold files  I wonder if that is there is any truth to that. It does seem that each person is held for the same amount of time(within days). hmmm

Anyway,

Congrats packet 3's,releases and interview dates. and to those still waiting..I hope the time goes by quickly and use this time to prepare for the interview.

Good Luck to all detainees

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I think if that was the case then we would be seeing gluts of people from certain embassies, which we don't seem to. I know when I was stuck in AP other UK filers were being shipped off to London from the NVC after only 2 days there.

exactly. There isnt a trend with certain consulates being held.

It seems like such an odd thing for DOS to say though.. wierd. I shouldnt be suprised :P
