My wife and I have been sending money to her mother in Peru using Ikobo. I just found out they went out of business last month. I'm not happy about this  . It was the easiest and cheapest way. Now we need a new way to do it. I've heard about people sending ATM cards. Is this a good idea? One thing I liked about Ikobo was that I was buying peruvian soles with dollars. When using Moneygram, I have to pay to send the money(of course) then wife's mother has to pay to convert the dollars to soles. Does anyone have any ideas?

OK, Just found out Ikobo is being taken over by M2 Global, Ltd. Hopefully we can still use them. But we have to setup a new account. So....never mind.

Its my understanding that you can get reloadable debitcards I think that they are really just gift cards . She could go to any cajero en peru and get soles out of it with that card and you can reload it from here mine has no fee I use Wells Fargo dont know what you have where you are from. I dont think I would send it to her maybe you could load it with say $1 send it to her insured and then if she gets it then put money in it.

Things like that dont get there very safely. USPS will insure it so you could get your money back

This service charges $4 for sending $100 to Peru, and $7 for sending $250. I've never used it before, but maybe it is cheaper for you?
