Caroline Kennedy, whose only real experience in politics is the obvious relationship and the occasional prop at Obama gatherings has declared her interest in becoming a U.S. Senator.....

Of course she's qualified to be a Senator as Obama's candidacy and subsequent Presidency has lowered the bar of both experience level and substantive credentials to the point that just about any dolt with name recognition and some celebrity can achieve success...... here's the "gene pool" by which our leadership comes in the future....Scary indeed!

It's all about superficiality and celebrity peeps.....Welcome to bizzaro world!

WASHINGTON – Caroline Kennedy has spoken to New York's governor about the Senate seat that will come open when Hillary Rodham Clinton becomes secretary of state, and Kennedy and the governor are expected to meet as early as Saturday to discuss it further, according to people familiar with the conversation.

Kennedy reached out to Gov. David Paterson, who will pick someone to fill the seat for two years, according to a Democratic source who spoke on condition of anonymity because the conversation was private.

Two New York Democrats told The Associated Press that Kennedy and the governor are expected to meet privately to discuss the matter Saturday, when Paterson travels to Washington, D.C., for a dinner.

Kennedy is interested in the Senate appointment, said a person close to the Kennedy family.

Kennedy is the daughter of President John F. Kennedy and a niece of brothers Edward and Robert. Robert Kennedy held the New York seat from 1965 until his assassination in 1968. Edward Kennedy has been a senator from Massachusetts since 1963.

As a prominent member of the Kennedy clan, Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg is the kind of high-profile, historic figure who could overshadow many other New York politicians hoping to be Paterson's choice.

The governor has said he is in no rush to make a decision, and Clinton is not giving up the seat before she is confirmed as President-elect Barack Obama's secretary of state.

"The governor has not yet reached out to any potential candidates," said Paterson's spokesman, Errol Cockfield. "He has been approached by several candidates. Any discussions related to that selection are private and the governor will not comment about speculation before a decision is made."

Word of the conversation comes days after Kennedy's cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced he was not interested in the job — a move that sidesteps any messy interfamily competition.

Whoever Paterson appoints would serve for two years and then have to run in a special election in 2010, along with Paterson and New York's senior senator, Charles Schumer. The candidate would then have to run again in 2012.

Kennedy has strong connections to incoming Obama administration officials — though Obama transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter insisted they were not involved in any way with the search for the next U.S. senator from New York.

As a prominent booster of Barack Obama's presidential bid, Kennedy spent much of 2008 taking bigger steps onto the public stage.

As famous as she is, she always has been viewed as almost painfully shy. She does not like talking about herself, nor does she appreciate those who do.

She met her husband, Edwin Schlossberg, while working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They married in 1986 and have three children.

She made a splash in early 2008 by writing an op-ed column for The New York Times declaring her support for Obama, saying he had the potential to be as inspirational to Americans as her father was in the 1960s. She also spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

She then hit the campaign trail with Obama, and worked on the vice-presidential search that eventually settled on Joe Biden.

Caroline Kennedy is easily the most famous contender for Clinton's Senate seat, but there are plenty of others. New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is widely known in the state. Paterson could also pick Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown or Tom Suozzi, a Long Island elected official.

There are also a number of House members in the running, including Reps. Carolyn Maloney, Kirsten Gillibrand, Steve Israel, Brian Higgins, Nydia Velazquez and Jerrold Nadler.

Kind of like the Governor of California, eh? and that was before President Elect Obama, so whose "fault" is that?

It's the fault of those that only subscribe to popular movements and followings; just like Obama's candidacy and election proves without ambiguity.

Jimmy Carter  was elected of the same circumstance wit a popular movement that was anti-Nixon and it didn't matter what empty suit they voted for as long as it was the "cool" thing to do at the time and of course, not associated with the evil Nixon.....

I would say that 65% of Obama-bots don't have a clue........

Celebrity and popularity and superficiality is what Obama's Presidency is all about, and sadly will be about in the future.......

The Govenator is simply a Liberal in drag..........No?

If the re-election of GWB was supposedly an example of intelligent political decision-making - my guess is that a fair few people were drunk in 2004

GWB is, and was one of the strongest and most savvy Presdients that we've ever known. You're continual bashing of the Presdient demonstrates your ignorance of the issues.

Sure...

Well lets look at the circumstantial evidence for that opinion. Your questionable avatar, the double misspelling of the word "President" and your awful grammar seem to suggest that your judgment probably isn't the best.

Uh, uh. I know when your argument's gone to the trashcan when you bring up minutia such as typos.

The fact is that you are ignorant of the issues, you've never been to the middle east, you're certainly not privvy to any of the intellegence that the President was, and is privvy to now, but yet you persist with this nonsensical diatribe. It's hard to take guys like you seriously when it's apparent you have little or no perspective based on life experience.

Get your nose out of the NYT, a paper that thankfully won't be around much longer......

Oh, and BTW the clueless Obama-bots I refer to were not "drunk" as you purport those that voted for Bush in 2004 were. They're just seriously ignorant people concerned with only trivial matters and superficial image.

It's apparent to all when some were interviewed in the documentary "how Obama was elected".......

Have you seen this? :bonk:

Question No. 58 in the transition team vetting document for the Obama White House asks that applicants: "Please provide the URL address of any websites that feature you in either a personal or professional capacity (e.g. Facebook, My Space, etc.)" Question No. 63 asks that applicants "please provide any other information … that could … be a possible source of embarrassment to you, your family, or the President-Elect."

For a while there this afternoon, President-elect Barack Obama's immensely talented chief speechwriter, 27-year-old Jon Favreau, might have been pondering how to address that question.

That's when some interesting photos of a recent party he attended â۠including one where he's dancing with a life-sized cardboard cut-out of secretary of state-designate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and another where he's placed his hand on the cardboard former first lady's chest while a friend is offering her lips a beer â۠popped up on Facebook for about two hours. The photos were quickly taken down â۠along with every other photo Favreau had of himself on the popular social networking site, save for one profile headshot.

 And ####### does all your above rambling had to do with my post??? Wait. Nothing.

I sustain the governor of California is a complete idiot who had NO EXPERIENCE at all when he took office. But that is ok and you respond by a.g.a.i.n b1tching about President Elect Obama (drill that in your head btw, he IS your President starting 01/20)? Give me a break. Unless you actually believed he IS the Terminator.

Take your meds dude, withdrawal is showing.
