In the case of a publicly owned corporation, the stakeholders are not just management and employees, but the board of directors and shareholders as well. In a marriage (as we define it today), there are only two. Making discretionary case-by-case exceptions is much easier when you have only two.

I can not debate that logic. But are you saying that due to the complexity of a publicly owned corporation, discretionary decisions should not be made on a case-by-case basis?

Are you saying that the decision should not consider what's best for the business in the long-term, and/or if options other than termination should be considered?

I am saying it is more difficult to get buy-in when you have a lot of stakeholders. I am saying sometimes, the effort isn't worth it, especially when the infraction we're looking to "forgive" is so publicly visible.

If the person is critical to the success of your business, is it still not worth the effort to investigate alternatives to termination?

If the infraction in not publicly visible, does it make a difference?

If your spouse makes a misrepresentation that is publicly visible, does that change the criteria for your forgiveness?

Which risk is greater? Losing the executive or the lawsuits that will result from not applying published HR policies to said executive?

I see that as key.

So then you agree that there must be a risk assessment?

I disagree that a lie told in a marriage is an equitable comparison here.

Cool :)

On what basis?

Are you saying sometimes it's OK to lie to your spouse (who should be one of the most important people in your life)

but telling a lie to anyone else should always result in termination?

An essential part of my wifes qualifications to be my wife is that she's female.

If I found out she was born male, I'd call that equivalent to a senior executive lying about his education.

But AJ, what if you're 80 years old, and your transgender wife has continued to please you for all these years,

and there's no one else around to take care of you, and you need constant care, would there be room for consideration, or would you still

give him/her the old heave-hoe?

Let's take it another step further...if you were entirely dependent on your transgender wife, and by virtue of their care sustain your life,

would you rather die, than for a moment consider maintaining or altering the relationship without totally severing it?

And what if the senior executives education was not essential to his/her qualifications?

You still haven't answered the question about risk assessment.

At 80? Depends. Am I on Viagra?

See...THAT'S what I'm talking about.

MOST of the time termination is the correct resolution, SOMETIMES it is not, but it should ALWAYS be considered on a case-by-case basis.

And I'm done....got snow...need to build a snowman :)

Well,

The job description for retail giants, HR position, for many of the major ones do not list a Bachelors degree as their requirement. They're looking for candidates experiencing in management or undergone management training, high school graduate, sales. In the case such as Best Buy in store HR Manager, Staples Operation Manager, Lowes' HR Manager and Operational Manager, etc..they do not need a college degree. I see that in the field as regards to business practice, a degree is not required.

However, the job decriptions for positions in research lab, medicine, pharmacist, engineering, lawyer all requires a degree. You can't become a doctor without first going to grad school. Grad school requires a BS degree. You get the point.

And, the license board for these professions require that you receive a degree from an accredited institution too.

Agreed with exception to "research lab". There are positions within a research lab that do not require a degree or license.

Agreed that there are certain occupations where there is no option to firing someone who has misrepresented their education.

Almost dressed for the snow....still layering...snow is waiting for me.

Hope the slopes will open this month (midwest)

I am not saying any of those things. I am just saying if we were arguing the marriage angle with <insert whatever lie in here> I would have a different perspective.

How and why would your perspective be different?

Are you purposely being vague?

I am not being vague - I already stated I dont think the marriage lie example is relevant, therefore why would I argue the point it?
