Big Dog raises a good point though. Either an employer terminates for each instance of the same violation, or it does not. Case-by-case could result in some serious legal exposure. I am sure counsel would not like that at all.

Fully agreed. Termination for the integrity challenged for all. That is the way it works with my employer. For others that will forgive this, please advise the company name, so that I will never make the mistake of applying there.

The man I read about was an American citizen and has worked at the same company since 1996. He was outed by a man who makes it his business to do background checks into executives of major corporations. If he finds out they lied about education or what have you... he short sells their stock...rats them out...and makes a killing.

I disagree. Uncovering information like this is a valuable service, and if he can profit from it, even better. He works the system, good for him.

I think he's a scum bag for doing it. What did those people ever do to him? Is it worth it to ruin people's lives over something like that? What about the other stock holders in those companies who lost money because their stock plummeted afterward?

Right, but if the VP of a company I invest in is doing a great job and has been for years I would be pretty upset some ex-con came and outed him just to make a killing while ruining the VP's career and the shareholders/my investments.

I believe its wrong for someone to lie about their education in the first place. Don't get me wrong. But if it aint broke, why fix it? But I see from this post not everyone feels that way.

He's not responsible for your loss.

He played within the rules and made money. Good for him.

Yeah, lawyers suck. Don't you wish we still lived in the days when conflicts could be settled like civilized men, through a duel or gunfight or something? Arguing in court is so barbaric.

A.J., You know my point. I am suggesting that integrity is key to success, with those that work for us. This concept pays forward to the top of the chain.

If only...

I do think someone that lies about their education to get a job should be fired. Not only because they lied but because it means that people that spent many years and many thousands of dollars to educate themselves so that they could qualify for such a job were cheated. I don't want to believe that I spent 4.5 years and around $40,000 on a Bachelors degree for nothing...at least not without a refund.

I'm living in a place where lying and cheating are an integral part of the culture and I don't think anyone from the west would want that kind of society to become the norm. Education should be valued. It's really unfortunate to see the dumbing down of culture where Britney Spears and 'you might be a redneck' jokes get more attention in the media than intellectual discussion of scientific breakthroughs or philosophical thought.

That remided me of the SNL skit with Phil Hartman, Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer

It's just "Cirroc", your Honor.. and, yes, I'm ready. [ approaches the jury box ] Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I'm just a caveman. I fell on some ice and was later thawed by some of your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes when I fly to Europe on the Concorde, I wonder, am I inside some sort of giant bird? Am I gonna be digested? I don't know, because I'm a caveman, and that's the way I think! When I'm courtside at a Knicks game, I wonder if the ball is some sort of food they're fighting over. When I see my image on the security camera at the country club, I wonder, are they stealing my soul? I get so upset, I hop out of my Range Rover, and run across the fairway to to the clubhouse, where I get Carlos to make me one of those martinis he's so famous for, to soothe my primitive caveman brain. But whatever world you're from, I do know one thing - in the 20 years from March 22nd, 1972, when he first ordered that extra nicotine be put into his product, until February 25th, 1992, when he issued an inter-office memorandum stopping the addition of that nicotine, my client was legally insane. And, for that reason, I ask that you fine him.. not guilty. Thank you.
