Ok i work at an immigration office (i am the secreatry) but they basically deal w/ deportation cases and how to give them they're residency. We've done alot of stuff for people. but one of the attorney's who want to help me file is telling me that i have to pay the I-485 fee and the EAD fee separte. $1,010 plus $340. does anyone have a way where i can prove him wrong? he's one of the best paralegal's here but everyone knows there are so many branches when it comes to immigration and i am sure he's not right. he's never dealt with cases from a K1 visa holder

As said above, the instructions clearly state you don't have to pay extra for EAD or AP.

This man may be a great paralegal, but he needs to check his facts before giving legal advice...

As shown (above) the best 'proof' is on the I-485 instructions page. The attorney is wrong. (For what it's worth before July of 2007, you would pay a separate fee for EAD (and AOS) but it wasn't $1010; Likewise you could have filed for EAD without/before filing AOS and paid a separate fee but almost no one does that; it just doesn't make sense to do so.)

I'm probably gonna regret this...

2 things:

1) If you are a secretary for a law firm, it is "their" not "they're". There are others but this one jumped out at me.

2) An attorney is not a paralegal. A paralegal is a paralegal and an attorney is an attorney. The sooner you learn the difference the more successful your career.

The other advice given here is good advice. Follow their links and you will answer your questions.

to start with i have a bunch of things to do here today, and everytime i get a little break i go online and check this forum. i have a freaking migraine with all these problems i have, this is not the only one. so i am typing real fast. you can even notice i dont capitalize letters that are suppose to be. so stop correcting people because i know when i am suppose to type correctly and when i can type as i please. havent you ever typed in a rush and made mistakes? and about the paralegal and attorney they are two different persons. but like i said i was in a rush and forgot to mention i was talking about 2 people here at my job. but thanks anyways for taking your time in answering my question

firstly i dont know whats an OP? secondly i thought this forum was to help people w/ their questions, not make people perfectionist. yes my two questions are similiar. but in one i was actually asking th price of the whole filing process and in the other i was asking if i could be given a web page or anything else as proof that what was being told to me was worong. because the only proof i had was the uscis.gov web page which should be proof enough but he's a hard head. understand where i am coming from? but please please please if you dont have nothing helpful or nice to say, please just please ignore my page and click another one. i am in search of help not criticism.

I think the OP stands for Original Poster (you). It does take awhile to figure out some of the abbreviations used here by the regulars. I thought some of the responses were a bit snippy and out of character for VJ. Maybe those people have had bad experiences with law offices.

Just snippy because asked and answered, in first thread, perhaps should have asked the "Show Proof" as a response in the first thread instead of starting another thread. Or could have read the instructions for forms I-485, I-765, and I-131.

If this guy is not licensed, he might want to be careful about giving LEGAL advice in the first place.
