Alien, you do understand how trials work, right? I mean - the jury have to go on the evidence presented in court The difference between the two trials would seem to be that in trial one, there wasn't enough evidence to convict Simpson, whereas in this trial, there quite clearly was.

I think there was far more evidence convict OJ in the first trial but it was largely disregarded by a jury that didn't understand DNA blood samples found at the crime scene to leading up to OJ's house. In the second trial, they had the recording at least placing him at the scene of the crime this time. This jury found the evidence compelling enough to find him guilty.

There was dodgy evidence collection and some other dodginess on the part of the investigating officers that OJs lawyer was able to spin into a case for institutional racism on the part of the LA police.

It also highlighted the problems inherent in jury selection in communities that are racially segregated.

You finally wrote what was really at the root of his aquittal in the first trial. It was the appearance of impropriety by the L.A. Police department during evidence collection that was used by the defense to create doubt.

The police didn't actually engage in the planting of evidence and that was never proven.

Additionally, Mark Furhman, a principal detective in the case, was dumb enough to lie about never having used the "N" word.

A weeks long, mind numbing presentation to the jury about the DNA evidence probably sealed the fate of the prosecution if Mark and sloppy evidence collection hadn't already.

The jury afterwards said they wanted to "send the L.A. Police a message" by aquitting Simpson. I watched the trial from start to finish and only at the end, following the aquittal, did I realize that the jurors themselves were'nt exactly what one could term "analytical" and capable of objective thought.

In fact, upon viewing their responses on various news shows, some were dumb as a rock!

I read in an article on ESPN last night (can't find it now) that the prison OJ is most likely to end up in is in Ely, Nevada. I think the article said the main group there that more or less "runs things" was called something like the Aryan Warriors. I'm guessing if OJ does end up there, his new Warrior friends will see to it that he receives a fair "delayed sentence" for the two murders :)

Either way... perhaps he'll be reenacting his roles in The Naked Gun movies.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Where are all the supporters from OJ's original murder trial? They claimed he was framed by racist cops last time so what's the difference now?

My guess is that this time the media coverage was a lot lower so they could find a jury that didn't know anything about the lastest charge. By contrast, the OJ in 1995 (?) were the most uninformed people they could find in SOCAL.

I think the difference now is 1) there was a recording to play for the jury, 2) witnesses and co-conspirators testified against him. Pretty hard to claim a racist frameup with that. Do the crime - do the time.

That's insane. I hope George Bush can fix this before he leaves office.

Maybe he'll give OJ a pardon as he will the rest of his criminal cronies.

Obama and his liberal ilk will provide him with a TV, conjugate visits in a private trailer (how appropriate) and they will "rehabilitate" him for it wasn't really his fault it was the fault of the U.S.A. and his environment. We the people caused him to commit his crimes, not he himself.

Oh well, it's the liberal Bizzaro world for the next 4 years. Get used to it!

He has reason to cry - and hopefully his prison mates will give him more reasons to cry.

Seriously, any trial like his murder trial (shall we call that OJ1?) that goes on longer than a week or so will probably end in an acquital. No reasonable jury can be sure of anything after so much conflicting testimony over so many weeks. The standard of "beyond reasonable doubt" means almost positive. So if you hire enough lawyers, and they carry on muddying the water long enough, without witnesses or a murder weapon you are unlikely to ever see jail.

What I want to know is did OJ ever pay his HUGE legal defense bill. Now that would surprise me.
