while waiting for AOS ...are we nonresident alien or ?

While we have applied for AOS and waiting for NOA1 etc...are we considered non resident alien or we are resident alien ...

remember we have not got green card yet...But we have Alien number the moment we got NOA2 or moment we entered at POE after K1 Visa

Also US citizen who is married to foreigner has to file a joint tax return or his/her status is still single till foreigner spouse gets green card?

For tax purposes I think you are (1)alien and (2)resident because you reside in the US, not in a foreign country.

Also US citizen who is married to foreigner has to file a joint tax return or his/her status is still single till foreigner spouse gets green card?

If you're married, then you're not single. There is another filing status called Married Filing Separately which is a return for a married person, who chooses not to file a joint return.
