Passport Questions

Hey all,

Just wanted to ask, is it normal for the Consulate in Rio to call someone after they just received they're Passport?

My Fiance got her Passport on Friday, and her mother called her today and told her that a man from the Consulate called and was asking questions, like her name, address, etc. etc. My Fiance wasn't able to get all the details because she's in a different city still from getting her passport, but will return home tomorrow and ask her mother exacty what the man wanted.

But, anyone know if this is normal? I mean, it can't be in regards to the I-129F Petition, it hasn't even been approved yet.

err i'd be very suspicious if someone called my place and asked personal info over the phone. I would NOT give them any information, i'd ask who's calling (the name of the person) and i'd call the consulate and ask if that person works there and then see if they need any info, but still, i don't think they would ask any info over the phone after all the paperwork they ask for this process.

I agree, it was a little strange. I should know more about what the phone call was about tomorrow.

The only thing she has done recently is get her Passport... but why would the American Consulate call her after she's gotten her Passport? It doesn't make sense to me.

Our I-129F Petition is far from being transfered (or even approved for that matter) to the Consulate... but she has never done anything else regarding the Consulate before... so I'm confused.

Oh wait a minute, just thought of something. Could it be that the USCIS is now working on my petition, and called the Consulate in Rio to contact her and make sure that the information I provided on the I-129F was accurate?

Do they do that sort of thing? I'm so lost

I really don't know. You started a month after we did, we didn't get our NOA2 nor any phone calls. And we're Nebraska too, or were, we got trasnfered to California. Did you also get transfered to California Service Center?

Sounds a little weird. The consulate never called during our process. It sounds even weirder considering your app hasn't been approved yet.

Let us know some more details when your fiance gets back.

yeah i have to agree very weird, because even if they called they'd call me first, my case started a month before you.

Well just got off the phone with my fiance, the Consulate did indeed call her house. The man indentified himself, and that he was calling from the American Consulate in Rio.

He asked her mother to verify the house address, Ananda's full name, and weather or not she indeed lived there.

I have no idea... I'm gonna post something in the K1 forum about this, and see if anyone has any clue.

Does her mother wrote down his name??? If, yes, just call back the consulate and ask to talk to the man...

This is very weird and I was wondering about that dangerous calls they have been doing in Brasil (they get your name and adress in the yellow pages, or somewhere online eg orkut and say such scary things... it happened to my half-brother and his mother: they called her saying he got in a serious accident and was almost dying, trying to get as much info they could because she was just freakin out when she heard that. you just not think, you start to say all the info without knowing... but everythign turned out without problems...). BUT, it still can be the consulate checking the info. Who knows... I never heard about them calling anyone from Brasil.

Try calling the consulate to clarify. YOU, not Ananda. They treat us brazilians like $hit...

I just tried calling the Consulate and the woman transfered me somewhere and it hung up on me.

Do you know if this is the best number to call? (55-61) 3312-7000 Or is there a different one?

I've also sent them an emal.

Her mother told me this morning the man's name was Pedro that called her.
