So I just joined this site because I recently got engaged and my friend recommended VJ (she met her husband while working for the Peace Corps in his home country). I met my fiance the old-fashioned way. We both happened to be on holiday in the same town, walking down the same street, and started chatting. Before we knew it, the afternoon had flown by and we had to say goodbye. After that, we kept in touch profusely and developed a close friendship and mutual affection--but nothing at all romantic. I went back to visit him this summer, both of us without any expectations. By the end of my month with him and his family, we were engaged.

Now it seems that a lot of couples on this site met via the internet, so I'm just curious about people's stories...those who are willing to share.

myspace made it happen. i was on vacation in LA in 2005. after a few emails, he flew to LA to meet up with me. a week after i met his mom. i went back to the philippines. we took turns visiting each other as he is also filipino. then decided we couldnt stand this crazy long distance relationshp. so voila... k1!!!

Ha, does anyone on this board really care how my wife and I met?

But was certainly a different experience meeting someone on the internet, could add there were thousands, then to meet a person you both develop a very deep platonic relationship first before meeting. Traditional way of meeting a person is to first have a sexual attraction, then develop a platonic one if it goes that far.

We went on this way for nine months growing more and more dependent on each other when I said, we have to meet. Was a bit of apprehension, has either one of us or both of us would not find the other attractive. Just told her, she would always be my friend, let's see what happens. Beside the phone, e-mails, MSN, also many hours in front of the webcam. Ha, look but don't touch.

The first time we held hands, it was magic, we did not kiss when we first met. Drove a hundred miles, talked, held hands, then stopped at a rest stop, then our first kiss, never felt that magic before. Three of the best days in our lives together, I asked her to marry me, she said yes before I could finish the question. But with immigration and other complications, another 15 months went by before we finally were married. This also deepened our platonic relationship with both of us dealing with one situation after another. But we never let three month go by without spending a couple of weeks together, God, it was hard to part. But let us know we were meant for each other.

All history now, been happily married for five years now, but thought of our unusual relationship, and other relationships I had in the past, was always sexual attraction first with a platonic never really developing, sexual attraction can go sour in a hurry. This has to be a much better way to develop a relationship, and if both of you can't stick it out, wouldn't work out anyway.

I completely agree! My fiance and I met while we both happened to be on holiday in the same town in Morocco. We spent the afternoon together chatting, and then when I got back to the U.S., I contacted him. We began chatting online, about everything and nothing, for hours on end every weekend. This continued for months, and as time passed, we developed a really strong platonic relationship, but there was also this mutual affection. Nothing romantic though. After several months of this, we decided that we really wanted to see each other again for real.

In July this summer, I spent a month with him in Morocco. Both of us were really nervous and excited, but after the first couple days, we felt completely at ease, and the chemistry was perfect. By the end of the month, after some lengthy discussions, we were engaged. However, I think that if we hadn't developed the platonic friendship first, we wouldn't have the strong connection we have now to get us through the difficulty of the long visa process and being apart for several months.

We're hoping that he will get his visa in April/May this spring, and just keep thinking positive thoughts. We have a lot of people supporting us and sending us good energy, so we are just hoping for the best.

Almost exactly the same story as you with the exception of I didn't say goodbye the day we met. I was in Morocco on holiday as was he. We locked eyes. He came over and said hi to me. That was it!

I was in the Peace Corps in Morocco for three years. He attended my English classes. We began dating about a year and 1/2 into it. I thought he was a great guy before that, but as he was so young, I only thought of him as a great guy for younger women. But ultimately, I couldn't resist! And we've been happy ever since!!
