Hi all,

Im currently in the US on a visitors visa. I have a one year visa that began last septembe. Whilst here I met my boyfriend, and we wish for me to stay here. I was told in the K-1 forum that I dont need to apply for a K-1 and can simply adjust my status here.

Im wondering though... my visa is only valid until september and we are not yet married. Do I have to wait for the aos to be approved before I can stay, or am I eligible to be here as soon as it is sent off even if my visitors visa expires during the wait?

You see im being girly and want a wedding with all my friends and family coming from the UK, and want time to organise it etc. But obviously time is ticking, and I dont know if I can do all that AND get the AOS through before September.

Id love to here others experiences of going form visitor to marrying a citizen :)

Thank you

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Yes you can file for AOS and remain... just make sure you are married before your visa expires.... once you have filed the AOS your status changes from tourist to Adjustment Pending... so no need to worry about your tourist visa having run out.... as you only met your husband after to entered the States you do not need to worry about having proof of your intent to return to your own country.... we had a wonderful wedding with all our friends and family over from the UK and I organised it all in 8 weeks... so it can be done..

Good Luck

I did this, but it didnt answer my questions. Were some of the people in that thread saying that they got in trouble for staying when they didnt have their AOS through?

Also, the issues there seemed mainly to be regarding the time between arrival in the country and marriage, but I was here for 6 months before I even met my boyfriend so that is not an issue for me.

You asked for other people's experiences and there's a wealth of information in that thread, with all of the links to other threads, referencing the forms you'll need to complete, etc. Other than that, Kezzie has given you good info.
