I don't understand why it matters if the hymen is broke or not

because in many cultures its the only way that a man or women thinks they an be sure that she was a virgin when marring

If you're marrying someone you should be able to trust them enough that if they say they're a virgin then you believe they're a virgin...hymen or not. That's why I don't understand it.
